Hi everyone ,

I just want to consult with anyone here about the processing times of NVC. Currently, we already received our MNL# back on September 27, 2017. We also have instructions to make the payment. However, our lawyer is asking for a few things from my husband's sister who is the co-sponsor. We already have everything but an original letter from her employer which is taking quite some time to be sent. My husband and I are not agreeing over when to pay for the visa. Based on what I have read so far, paying for the visa is the first step before sending the documents to NVC

My questions are:

1. Can we go ahead and pay the visa fees while gathering the requirements?

2. How soon will NVC forward the documents to the USEM once they have received it?

3. How soon can I schedule an interview with the USEM?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help :)

Schedule the interview and pay the fee as soon as you get the MNL#.  Let the lawyer and your husband's sister know when the interview is scheduled for.  Force them to get the paperwork in order.  This is your life.  Dont spend too much time waiting on other people!

NVC should forward the paperwork within 7 to 10 days unless they have an issue.

You are burning daylight as we speak right now.

1. Yes, you can go ahead and pay the embassy fee in the Philippines. They don't wait for you to pay the fee before they send it to the embassy, they forward that to the embassy within 10 days on average.

3. When you go and pay the embassy fee then you can go ahead and schedule the interview, you also need to do medical as well.

Get your butt in gear because your burning daylight.

From what it sounded like they got the CR1 fee and the Embassy interview fee mixed up.  Because CR1 visa holders have to pay the visa fee before they can receive the official green card.

Yes, by visa fees I meant the processing fees and affidavit of support fee. Thank you so much!

Not a problem at all it's hard to know which is what sometimes. So that's why we are here to help out. As of right now you can go as fast as you want or as slow as you want in regards to everything. Once you pay the fee and schedule an interview you have to do medical before then. So some people like to take their time while others like to get it done as soon as possible, just remember the medical is valid for 6 months after it's complete.

Thank you for your advice! We were just thrown off because our lawyer was asking to send a bunch of documents after we got the NOA2. Then came our MNL# a few weeks later... we thought we had to gather those first. I'd like to ask though, I already inquired with the paralegal handling our case but she hasn't responded, what will they do with the documents they are asking for? Its basically what we submitted to the USCIS except for the proofs our relationship is authentic (tax forms, proof of income etc.)

We shall pay for the fees today! Thank you!

You will take those to the interview appointment at the embassy so you have time.

What's funny is that a large majority of the time we here on VJ are more accurate than alot of "immigration lawyers".

Hmmm yeah so our lawyer is based in San Diego CA. That means they were asking me to send the original police clearance all the way there just to send it back to me? 🤦🏻‍♀️

That does not make sense at all. Also know that a police clearance is good for 6 months from the interview, and any country that they lived in for over 6 months

I was going to mention that, from my experience here, the immigration lawyers only prolong or even cause the process to stop!  The people here have way more experience and knowledge than what we can tell about the lawyers here.  I'm sure there are good ones but the stories I've seen here are definitely not good.

All that paperwork goes with you to the interview.  Maybe your lawyer wants to see it first but I dont know why he would.  My future asawa has her and her son's NBI, police certs from Ireland and Korea, her CENOMAR, and Birth Certificates for her and her kids.  I sent my tax returns and pay stubs (emailed PDF that she can print).  There is no need for a lawyer back here to look through those things that may or may not be looked at during the interview.  These are just my thoughts.  Have everything ready to go and hopefully they won't look at any of it!
