After Donald Trump issued a fierce Twitter rebuke of Bob Corker, the retiring Republican senator tweeted back: “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”

The exchange between the president and the chair of the Senate foreign relations committee was the latest undignified episode in Trump’s bizarre and fractious relationship with the Republican establishment and parts of his own administration. Trump’s treatment of secretary of state Rex Tillerson this week prompted remarks from Corker that were seen as critical of the president.

Midway through Sunday morning, Trump wrote: “Senator Bob Corker ‘begged’ me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said ‘NO’ and he dropped out (said he could not win without my endorsement).

“He also wanted to be secretary of state, I said ‘NO THANKS.’ He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran deal!

“Hence, I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn’t have the guts to run!”

Corker was considered for both vice-president and secretary of state and was a key Trump ally during much of the 2016 campaign. He has since become a vocal critic.

On the deal between Iran and six major nations including the US that restricts Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, he is an important and supportive voice. It was reported this week that Trump, against the wishes of senior advisers, will not re-certify the deal. That would put it in the hands of Congress, which would decide whether to reimpose sanctions, a move that would threaten the deal’s existence.

Corker announced his decision to retire last month. “The most important public service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months,” he said, hinting at his opposition to the president. “I want to be able to do that as thoughtfully and independently as I did the first 10 years and nine months of my Senate career.”

This week, he made headlines when he implied that Trump was leading the US to the brink of “chaos”.

Sen Foreign Relations Chair punches back.

Bravo! Well done for saying what many are already thinking. Oh,and the weather isn't so good today for #dotard's round of golf at his club in Va today. Hahaha!

It's been a long time coming, the fact Corker isn't going up for reelection helps but Corker probably isn't the only one on the hill who has the same feelings.

Trump is woefully unqualified to do this job. He is a buffoon, like his Secretary of State said. He attacks members of Congress who disagree with him like a toddler.

All he has left is his fake news mantra and his brainwashed followers.

Divider in Chief

Toddler in Chief

Narcissist in Chief

Everything about this man and this administration is about taking this country backwards, backwards to the 20th century. There's no ambition, about taking this country forward into the 21st century.

Lol, Trump is the reason why they can't get anything done. He alienates everyone around him including members of his own party. He's fired or publicly humiliated members of his own administration.

He is impossible to work with because Trump wants everything done his way. The way he acts and behaves as supposed leader of the Free world is shameful, he's become a nationwide and worldwide embarrassment except to those only hardcore supporters.

He's making no effort in this country to try and bring people together when only a minority of the population voted for him. He wants divisiveness, chaos and instability, the guy appears to want the burn the whole country to the ground. Probably mainly due to his incompetence in doing his job.

As Corker said the white house operates like an adult day care and it won't surprise me to see both Tillerson and Kelly walk before the year is out. I feel both are only clinging on in their duty to not see this country not fall apart under the moron that is Trump.

I fail to see how Trump can get anything done when Congress won't even give him any legislation. The republicans had no problem passing an Obamacare repeal when they knew the president wouldn't sign it but now that we have a president that will repeal it they all of a sudden don't want to repeal Obamacare. I predict a lot of democrats and establishment republicans are going to be losing their jobs when the mid terms come

It's his own party in control of Congress! It was easy for Trump and Republicans to be against everything Obama and Clinton stood for but when it comes to governing they are lacking big time. Trump is the leader of the party, it's his responsibility, he's just an ineffective leader and a terrible President.

Donald Daycare is an idiot for attacking a GOP senator when the Republicans only have a 2 vote majority. Churlish Donny claims the only thing Corker gave is the Iran Deal...hmm, tiny hands probably doesn't even know what that deal is. Also he begged Corker to run 2018, but Corker declined.

In some ways I should feel sorry for Republicans like Corker but I don't. They were the ones who created the monster called Trump. After taking back the house in 2010 they gerrymandered districts all over this country using census data collected that year. They drew up lines in such a way to maximize their stranglehold on State legislators and pool most Democrats into fewer districts. This has now led to extremes happening in the Republican party because for most of them they know their seat is safe UNLESS that Republican gets primaried by someone else who's more extreme than them. They are more frightened of being ousted by someone in their own party than someone from the opposite party.

For example at the last election Wisconsin Republicans got less than half the vote but hold 67% of all seats in the state legislator.  It's screwed up, it's not democracy and as a consequence of their divide and conquer strategy they got a clown like Trump in the White House.

Yep, I don't feel sorry for him, but at least he's left with some dignity and knows how to throw some solid SHADE! :jest:

Mr. Corker flatly disputed that account, saying Mr. Trump had urged him to run again, and promised to endorse him if he did. But the exchange laid bare a deeper rift: The senator views Mr. Trump as given to irresponsible outbursts — a political novice who has failed to make the transition from show business.

Mr. Trump poses such an acute risk, the senator said, that a coterie of senior administration officials must protect him from his own instincts. “I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him,” Mr. Corker said in a telephone interview.

The deeply personal back-and-forth will almost certainly rupture what had been a friendship with a fellow real estate developer turned elected official, one of the few genuine relationships Mr. Trump had developed on Capitol Hill. Still, even as he leveled his stinging accusations, Mr. Corker repeatedly said on Sunday that he liked Mr. Trump, until now an occasional golf partner, and wished him “no harm.”

Mr. Trump’s feud with Mr. Corker is particularly perilous given that the president has little margin for error as he tries to pass a landmark overhaul of the tax code — his best, and perhaps last, hope of producing a major legislative achievement this year.

If Senate Democrats end up unified in opposition to the promised tax bill, Mr. Trump could lose the support of only two of the Senate’s 52 Republicans to pass it. That is the same challenging math that Mr. Trump and Senate Republican leaders faced in their failed effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

Mr. Corker could also play a key role if Mr. Trump follows through on his threat to “decertify” the Iran nuclear deal, kicking to Congress the issue of whether to restore sanctions on Tehran and effectively scuttle the pact.

Republicans could hold off on sanctions but use the threat of them to force Iran back to the negotiating table — a strategy being advocated by Senator Tom Cotton, the Arkansas Republican. But that approach could leave the United States isolated, and it will be up to Mr. Corker to balance opposition to the deal with the wishes of those, including some of Mr. Trump’s own aides, who want to change the accord but not blow it up.

Beyond the Iran deal, Mr. Corker’s committee holds confirmation hearings on Mr. Trump’s ambassadorial appointments. If the president were to oust Rex W. Tillerson as secretary of state, as some expect, Mr. Corker would lead the hearings on Mr. Trump’s nominee for the post.

In a 25-minute conversation, Mr. Corker, speaking carefully and purposefully, seemed to almost find cathartic satisfaction by portraying Mr. Trump in terms that most senior Republicans use only in private.

You know, when you teepartee types get done purging the folks who believe in civil rights, modern government, free trade, peace through strength, scientific observation and that Democrats are not the spawn of Satan...you know RINOs...you will be down to about 25percent of the vote. Try to Gerrymander your way to power then.
