Hello all.

I have done my bachelors in Business Administration from India. Can I do my masters in USA in Computer Science course?

In my high school (12th standard) my subjects were Maths Physics and Chemistry. After BBA I have done a one year pg diploma course in Computer Applications.

Please let me know of what you think?

Can you fully pay for tuition, books and supplies, room and board at the most expensive non-resident rate? (Expect anywhere from $36k to $67k per YEAR, USD, and a Masters degree will be at least 2 years duration) You will not qualify for any US federal loans or grants. Are your grades at the very top, because competition is intense for admissions, and US students are designated to have preference in all state and public universities? Have you taken the appropriate college admission assessment tests? And don't forget the costs involved with getting a student visa.

What is your goal here? If you want to study computer science, there are loads of choices in India.

If you want to land a job here in the states, you need a bit of luck plus a very competitive resume.

If you just want to get your masters here, yes it is possible, we have from devry to carnegie mellon

A lot of my family members reside in USA and hence even I want to settle in USA. My only question is can I do MS in computer science with a commerce background in bachelors?

Financially I can handle the situation we are prepared for all costs.

It doesn't matter what your background is. You can do a MS in computer science as long as you meet the school's requirements for that program. Every school is different.

Do some research on the school you want to want to attend and do some research. I'm sure that you can research over the internet. Also, have a family member in the US gather information for you.

Some factors that you may want to consider are location and size of school. Do you want to go to school in the state where your family members reside or are you willing to go to another state? Are you considering living on-campus or off-campus? Research other factors that are important to you.

There are hundreds of programs in the US that offer MS in computer science. You have a lot of options.

I sort of assumed you would need to have studies the subject at Bachelor's first?

Not really, I've seen people change fields.

However, do you know any programming? People at the master level are supposed to know some programming and at least one programming language.

Also, high level school classes? Really? High school does not count. And computer applications? Is that like Microsoft office?

I think you need to understand what computer science is. Also, computer science doesn't guarantee a job because if you are not working in the field already, you will learn about a lot of things but you won't be able to figure out how to apply them in practice.

I know because even though I didn't do a MA in Computer Science, I've taken 3 PhD level classes at the Computer Science department.

Is commerce like Economics? Did you have any math/stats? If so, maybe go the data science route. If not, you need to do a MA in India first.

By the way, consulates smell the fact that people have family in the US and try to study something totally unrelated to their fields just to get a job and move to the US. A lot of people have gotten visas rejected because of that. Also, unless you get to a good program, they are not going to buy it.
