The AOS and EAD both require a biometrics appointment, when you file both of them together you usually only get 1 appointment where they take fingerprints and photos for both applications.

When you file for EAD after the AOS you get two different biometrics appointments, 1 for each application. That's what happened in your wife's case.

EAD takes about 4 months atm, it seems to get worse and worse, some people say it'll take 5 months soon. Who knows.

appreciate your assistance! (which was much much better than what I got by phone from USCIS). So despite the 90-day window, I guess we'll wait some more. Maybe they should update the employment form stating it can take 5 months?

Prior to January of this year it was more of a guaranteed 90 days, meaning if they didn't meet it they had to do something about it. New rules in place since January still mention the 90 days but now it's just something they "aim" for, rather than should meet.
