I arrived in the US from Canada on a K1 Visa ans applied for a Green card 3 years ago, I got it within 3 months (horray!) I filed for a 5 year extension and I received a 1 year extension on my green card almost immediately However the extension runs out on Dec 19th 2017 as per the date on the letter from USCIS. I called today to find out why it was taking so long and was told they are processing applications from 2015 still! I'm a little freaked out as to what my options are right now. I have till Dec till my extension expires and I don't know where to proceed from this point. I checked my local USCIS office online to see if I could get an appointment however they are completely full for the next 14 days ( I will check VERY early tomorrow to see if I can get one then). SHould I be filing for another extension or is there something else I can do? 

 

If I cannot get an extension before mine expires what will happen? I currently work a full time job, my wife does as well and we could easily live on her wage alone. Will I have to quit because my Visa expires? Will I get deported from the US to Canada? If I do what will it take to get back? 

 

I have so many more questions but Ill keep it short and hope someone has experience in this!!

Keep trying to make an Infopass appointment and they will be able to give you an I-551 stamp in your passport which will evidence temporary proof of LPR status.

 

New slots open most days, and usually around midnight is your best bet at getting a slot.

 

Nothing will happen once your one year extension letter expires provided the I-751 is still pending, but you'll have no proof of your status.

What do you mean you filed for a 5 year extension? Don't you mean removal of conditions to get a 10 year GC?

 

Hypnos gave you all the answers though :) your status isn't affected, only your proof thereof.
