I find it hard to believe she did not know:

Academy Award winner Meryl Streep called the alleged sexual harassment by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein “disgraceful,” “inexcusable,” and an “abuse of power.” She called the women who have spoken out against him “heroes.”

In a statement sent to HuffPost exclusively by Streep’s longtime publicist Leslee Dart, Streep says she did not know that Weinstein― with whom she has collaborated for years on films like “August: Osage County” and “The Iron Lady” and once jokingly referred to as a “God”― was engaging in “inappropriate, coercive acts” and that he had paid financial settlements to at least eight women after they accused him of harassment and assault.

Streep’s statement comes four days after an explosive report in the New York Times detailed decades of allegations of sexual harassment and abuse. On Sunday, the board of directors of the Weinstein Company terminated him citing “new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days.”

Here’s Streep’s full statement:

“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.

One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.

The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”

Weinstein was initially suspended by his eponymous company following the revelations, which included claims from former staffers as well as actresses like Ashley Judd. And on Friday, TV reporter Lauren Sivan told HuffPost exclusively that Weinstein had cornered her at a restaurant closed to the public and masturbated in front of her.

Members of the entertainment community have come under fire for being slow in responding to the Weinstein crisis. Over the weekend, “Saturday Night Live” Executive Producer Lorne Michaels came under fire for cutting jokes from the show that involved Weinstein.  The New York Times reported that several jokes were tested during dress rehearsal but that they “fell flat” with the studio audience.

Michaels said he cut the jokes because Weinstein is a “New York thing,” meaning that he didn’t feel a national audience would appreciate the jokes.

Most of the late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, omitted the story in their Thursday night broadcasts. On “The Daily Show,” host Trevor Noah on Thursday made only a passing reference to Weinstein.

Weinstein was a prominent donor to Democratic candidates and liberal causes and was a frequent guest at the White Houses of former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Some Democrats who received donations from him have pledged to donate the money to other causes.

While some Hollywood stars have called out Weinstein, including younger actors like Lena Dunham and Amber Tamblyn, longtime collaborators like Gwyneth Paltrow and Quentin Tarantino have remained silent.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

All of Hollywood knew about Roman Polanski and they still applauded.

Good old Meryl even gave a standing ovation, so I would have no problem believing that she knew about Weinstein. At the Polanski award as the camera pans is that Weinstein (behind Scorsese) near the end also giving a standing ovation.

Harrisson Ford looks very uncomfortable.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/oct/09/actor-romola-garai-felt-violated-after-harvey-weinstein-encounter

Harvey Weinstein auditioned an 18-year-old Romola Garai while wearing only a dressing gown in an encounter at the Savoy Hotel that the British actor described as humiliating and “an abuse of power”.

The actor who starred in Atonement and the BBC series The Hour, told the Guardian she was left feeling “violated”. It is the latest of allegations of harassment and inappropriate behaviour by the Hollywood mogul.

Like every other woman in the industry, I’ve had an ‘audition’ with Harvey Weinstein, where I’d actually already had the audition but you had to be personally approved by him,” said Garai. “So I had to go to his hotel room in the Savoy, and he answered the door in his bathrobe. I was only 18. I felt violated by it, it has stayed very clearly in my memory.”

Garai said the incident in London was indicative of Weinstein’s approach to women in the film industry, consistently putting young female actors, often desperate to get a break in the industry, into “humiliating situations” to prove “he had the power to do it”.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Hillary STILL isn't giving back a cent of the millions Harvey Weinstein donated to the Clintons and is silent on his sex harassment (but IS plugging her book)

  • Harvey Weinstein was a huge donor for Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama who also bundled cash from his celebrity friends
  • His shame as a sexual harasser was revealed on Thursday but Clinton has said nothing and has not returned any of the money he was behind
  • But she did tweet a link to an interview promoting one of her books
  • And she was on stage for an hour and a half in Stanford but said nothing about the scandal, even criticizing the media for a lack of coverage of another issue
  • Other Democrats are giving donations Weinstein made to them to charity but Clinton's silence is in line with Barack Obama

Hillary Clinton is still declining to say whether she will return money her family received from Harvey Weinstein, after four days of mounting pressure that has led Democrats and Hollywood icons to distance themselves from the fired movie producer amid accusations of sexual harassment.

The former presidential candidate has pointedly avoided commenting on the allegations against Weinstein, one of her most loyal donors, and instead busied herself promoting her speeches and newly-released children's book.

The Clinton Foundation, which has received up to $250,000 from Weinstein, has not responded since Friday to multiple requests from the DailyMail.com about whether Clinton will return the money received by the foundation or her political campaign.

Where were these millions donated to?  It looks like Weinstein has given 1 million to all campaigns since 2000, and you Id'd 250 K to the Clinton foundation.  That seems paultry for 27 years of being the most powerful man in Holywood.  It seems downright a political given the context of his wealth.

why do you think she had to have known if she didn't suffer any harassment? it's not like serial creeps like weinstein have no control over what they're doing, usually they know who to target that will keep their mouths shut and who won't. established actresses are probably a bit too risky, i would think. jennifer lawrence had no idea either.

You don't seriously think this has been going on all these years in Hollywood and the majority of the connected and powerful in Hollywood did not know.  I will add at this point it is all speculation.

I am going to catch flak for this,  I think in many cases when something like this is alleged, victims jump on the wrecked bus. I am sure there is many a starlet who gleefully jumped on the casting couch to get a juicy role, who are now playing the victim

I am not saying he is not a creep and abused his power, I am saying the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

i seriously think sexual harassment has being going on since forever and hollywood is just like any other industry.  i believe it's totally possible that not everyone that worked with him was witness to or subject to harassment. i think that stance is way more reasonable than, hollywood are in cahoots for certain folks to be creeps and say nothing till the bus is wrecked. and you liked the comment above saying clinton and weinstein are probably old raping buddies, is the truth some where in the middle of that? because on one hand you're dismissing the accusations and on the other your assuming hollywood is a bunch of prostitutes and rapists.

seems like weinstein liked the ol' locker room jive - just like our dear leader. what's the biggie, when you're rich - starlets let you do whatever you want!!

Isn’t that money already spent?  I hear Bill and Hillary are not really that good at finances, so I bet they don’t have the ability to find the funds to symbolically give it away.

I know it's not easy to report harassment and sexual abuse when you're in showbiz, but really, why did they wait this long?

''Maybe they felt that they were the only ones and no one would back them up'' was my first thought, but in an article,

I read  that it became so common that it was almost a running gag amongst them ''Oh, Harvey, being his pervy self!''

Asia Argento claimed she was forced to give oral sex and had sex with him, Paltrow said he also tried things with her,

yet she continued to pose for photos with him, during awards, years after. Some like Sorvino said it destroyed their careers,

so what did they really have to lose at that point, being sued because of the NDA's?

It just truly horrifies me, all these despicable men and women abusing their power and being sleazeballs/pervs

and getting a ''pass'' for being in Hollywood. And it's not only crimes against grown-ups, actors have come forward

and say how child abuse is also prevalent, no wonder a lot of child actors end up addicted to drugs and booze.

Polanski, Woody Allen, Bryan Singer, the list goes on.

We should invent a game, share news stories about literally anything and wait how long it takes people to mention Hillary Clinton!

I recollect hearing about him in years gone by, I have been on TV a few ties but do not mix in those circles! Luvvies talk, it is what they do and I am sure his activities were the talk of the ladies toilets.
