There are some difficult truths regarding immigration. One of them is that there is a possibility of couples being separated for long periods of time. Some in the past have decided to by-pass this by finding other means to be together earlier like using a tourist visa to enter, marry , and adjust status. Obviously, US immigration clamped down on this, hence, the only thing this has done is made it more difficult for people to get tourist visas in certain countries.

Frequent visits to the beneficiary's country is the best option if doable. You may think being apart is torture but remember, the months or year or so apart is nothing compared to the lifetime you will spend together.

i couldnt have said it better myself traveling back and forth would be amazing however we all dont have the means im a full time employee and mother and student. Its not that we don't love our fiances because i know i do however those of us who actually have to work it isn't easy to just get up and go  it would be nice though

Love knows no reason,no boundaries,no distance .It has a sole intention of bringing people together to a time called FOREVER!!!!!!!!

We are encroaching on those times... K-1 is an 8 to 9 month average now and it is getting longer.  If you take into account that the CR has a GC in 12 to 14 months they are WAY quicker and cheaper.  CR is a much better option now.

If something does happen soon i will withdraw and marry overseas and file cr1 at that time

That is becoming a better and cheaper option.  When K-1s were only 3 to 4 months away from our loved ones, the CR was not as attractive.  Now that the two timelines are converging, having the GC in 12 to 14 compared to 24 to 48 months and less cost makes sense!  It may not help us now but maybe someone just looking at this now can change to the path that is best for them.

Our clock for the CR would start from scratch if we change now!

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.

I've never looked at their CR1 costs.  WE would lose the USCIS fee, too.  I'm just going to ride this one out.  I just bought my flights and hotel for a December visit.

Because It will take too long and I won't be with him, I mean that's why I'm living in Colombia right now, so we can be together, I actually thought of getting a tourist visa and marry him in us then start doing papers (I know this is fraudulent) but his TOURIST VISA WAS DENIED and I was kinda glad it was cause probably it would make some problems doing it in that way,  We have to change plans and think in the k1 fiance visa,  the thing is that we don't want to be apart from each for so long, the spouse visa would take almost a year or even more and I don't have time for that, I would prefer paying more so we can be together faster. and probably if I find a job ask them for vacations so I can visit my bf again in the months waiting cause I need him lol, I don't know you guys but I love my bf I don't know how somebody would meet their fiance through internet and then just visit them 1 time and staying with them for 1 month.

Hi Carolina, Sorry that I referred to your fiance as "her". I wasn't paying enough attention to your gender and didn't even read your name when I replied last night.

Well I'm actually the "He" in this relationship it's just my GF's photo here.

As others have pointed out to you I did not want to know details of who was paying for those other visa and marriage related items it was a rhetorical question to give you thought about the other fees down the road. Your initial post did not indicate that you had a large sum of money saved.

Best of luck with whatever you decide and yes we are here to help.

Speaking of help. This is public forum which anyone can read. I would be careful about expressing any intent to participate in fraudulent activity  not to mention publicly admitting the intent this forum. This could cause issues for you down the road as you mentioned and it is against the terms of this website.

Thanks
Steven

Hey girl! I understand, believe me. None of us want to be away from our loved ones, it's incredibly difficult. I've been in a long distance marriage or almost a year! But hear me out.

I do think you should consider the CR1 as a viable option. Sit down with your fiancé, write the pros and cons of both.

K1s are taking longer on average now as people mentioned. The fact that they were quicker was one of the few benefits they have over the CR1. Also, even if you have enough money saved up which I know you do,  the fact that he won't be able to work for up to 4 months inside the U.S. can be extremely hard on him and on you as a couple, especially while trying to adjust to a new country and the cultural shock.  Also, you'll go through adjustment of status and removing conditions, it's more expensive.

My husband and I knew it was going to be extremely hard to be away from each other for a year or more, but it is a sacrifice that will pay up significantly in the long run. It is also strengthening our relationship as we force ourselves to be more independent, communicate better and actively invest in opportunities to see each other.

Have you considered starting a CR1 from Colombia? Since you're already living together it would be considerably less stressful, since that's the big reason why you want to go the K1 route. I think you should at least check it out. Good luck!  :)

Yes, we were thinking about doing it, the thing is that I am kinda boring in Colombia because I do not work in here, and I want to go back to us, I don't want to stay in COLOMBIA anymore I'm very boring and tired because this is my country but everything its bad in here, it is dangerous, and I spent a lot of money, because we rented out an apartment and we paid a lot for this apartment, so If I stay longer we have to sign for other year and I'm not planning on staying more time in Colombia, traffic, it is really bad, too much noise, people are rude, I'm scared of going out because I feel like they are going to robbed or kill me , SO YEAH I WANT TO GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE. I'm staying for my bf but I would prefer living in the USA, the opportunities are way better, the pay is better, my bf he doesn't make a lot in Colombia he makes like for the whole day like less than 15 dollars and in here it is considered good lol, So I'm doing all of this so he can  get a better life. EVEN WITH A 5 YEAR DEGREE FROM COLLEGE, YOU EXPECT OF DOING at first LESS THAN 800.000 COLOMBIAN PESOS WHICH IS 260 DOLLARS. AND THE RENT that WE PAy IS actually that amount.

You're basically describing Mexico to me :P

Of course it is frustrating and I understand that you want to get out of there. I've been expressly kidnapped and robbed (multiple times) before, not a nice experience.

The K1 might not be as fast as you hope it will be, and it can bring a lot of frustration and stress. Just exhaust your options before making a decision. Think about what you want for your future. In Mexico, we have a saying: más vale malo por conocido, que bueno por conocer. (It's better to stay in something you know even if it isn't great than to seek something that could possibly be great but could also be the opposite) Not ideal to stay in Colombia for now but you want to be with him and at least you're already somewhat making it work. Your other option is to return to the U.S, which means you will be separated for long periods of time, but you won't be stressing this much and you can work again. I'd love for my husband to be here in Mexico with me, but he wouldn't be making enough money.  I wish we could have it all, for it to be fast and painless, believe me. Unfortunately, you will be embarking a long, stressful and complicated process whether you guys choose the K1 or CR1.

Everything I say is to try to help and I promise I don't mean any harm, on the contrary, I'm hoping that our experiences can help you out even in a small way and that we prevent you some suffering. <3

I'm going to fly to us the 26th of October, I want to get everything ready before flying because I have a lot of free time in Colombia,  but yes we have the same saying in Colombia,  I already know us, I have been living in US for more than 6 years so I know how it is, Now I feel like Colombia It is kinda weird and different, I remember things WERE different  than the way  they are now. I leave the long time ago and everything looks the same or even worse.

I totally get this. I spent about seven years in Argentina with my fiancée as she was attending school there. Such a difficult life. We were always going to live in the USA once she was finished, yet I never anticipated just how impossible safety/finances would be by the time I left South America.

Anyways, sorry to derail and good luck! 👍🏻
