I just received a letter from USCIS. It says

'We have an official notice about this case (and any relevant documentation) according to the mailing preferences you chose on Form G-28. Notice of entry of appearance as attorney or accredited representative. This is a courtesy copy, not an official notice.
What the notice said:
< here they copied the 18-month extension letter."

#######! I do not have an attorney nor any accredited representative! I filed myself w/out a lawyer or anything. My address is also updated (clearly, I received this letter). So where did my actual extension letter go? What do I do now? Has anyone received anything like this w/out actually having an attorney? I am so fed up by USCIS...

(I've posted this is in the November thread too... I actually filed in early November, but since I was actually eligible to file in late Oct. and will be filing for citizenship in October, I feel like I overlap between the two groups... In case anyone is wondering about the double-post.)

Informed Delivery shows a letter from USCIS is arriving today. It's got the '1 of 2' marker in the window, so I'm guessing it's the extension letter. I hope it's not the 'attorney' one. Will let you know!

Received the courtesy letter just now.  I'm hoping that the watermarked one arrives soon.... I'll be travelling and returning to the states mid October only a couple of weeks away from my 1 year expiry so I'm happy to have this in my hands now.

Do you mean the one on regular paper (no watermark) that starts with "We have an official notice about this case (and any relevant documentation) according to the mailing preferences you chose on Form G-28. Notice of entry of appearance as attorney or accredited representative. This is a courtesy copy, not an official notice."?

Do you have an attorney that your should arrive to. I don't have and attorney and I didn't designate anyone on the G-28 so I am confused why I got this and not the watermark one.

It seems to be a current issue..... several people have stated this as well. I, also, didn't use a lawyer so I am anxiously awaiting the watermarked one since I am travelling in 4 weeks.  I almost always have a panic attack going through border control even IF I know that everything is in order.  This will be a very anxious return for me.

As soon as I am back from my trip....son's wedding takes precedence, of course..... I will begin the citizenship process.  Who wants to go through this kind of drama every ten years? I'm certainly not going to get any younger so it will add that extra layer of burden too.

Hi all, I’m kinda new in here but I’ve watched this post ever since I started this long process. I sent my papers at the end of October.

Long story short one, I filed my I751 jointly but just a month and a half ago my husband and I filed for divorce and about a week ago, I got my divorce decree. I notified uscis immediately about this and everything seems okay so far. On Friday, August 31st I got my 18 months extension letter, as everybody else. Now my question is, do you think there’s a problem if I go to my country for about a week to visit my family? I’m a little bit scared because once I re-enter to the country, immigrantion will know that I’m now divorced, and also, I have a jointly I751 pending. My mom's birthday is in one month and I really wanna go to see her but once again, I’m anxious and scared to leave the country, even though everything is ok and I have my papers in order.

Cab someone give me an advice please?

thanks!!!

You wouldn't be going through this kind of process every 10 years. Now we are applying to remove conditions since - due to marriage - we got a CONDITIONAL green card. (People who get theirs through a job, for example, don't have to do what we are doing now, they get a regular green card right away! If you are through marriage they don't trust that your marriage is real, so they give you a conditional one and then re-evaluate it after 2 years to remove conditions or take away your green card. Once the conditions are removed (or for those that never had conditions), renewing the green card every 1- years is not this kind of a hassle. It is more like renewing an expired passport or driver's license. I know many people who never applied for citizenship (either cuz they can't be dual citizens or just can't be bothered) and it's been fine for them for decades. Removing the conditions is the hurdle, cuz they can take your gc away if they decide. Anyways, I will be applying for citizenship right away as well for many reasons, including wanting to live globally/travel a lot. I haven't left the country in a year and now with this unofficial extension letter I am anxious too. Because it's not official :( Based on what I am reading here, people who got this one haven't received a watermarked one unless they had a lawyer.... Uh.... CONGRATS TO YOUR SON!!!

Greetings and salutations everyone,

We received our modified (18 month) extension letter yesterday.

As a precaution - this past April, we made an appointment at our local USCIS office (Houston, Texas) to get an I-551 Passport Stamp in My wife's and her daughter's passport so we would not have any issues during their upcoming travel to their home country to visit family. By the way, the Houston Office is great - they called us to the window early and were very understanding. We had made 2 appointments (Mother and Daughter) but they processed them together the moment they realized the relationship.

My step daughter left in May and returned a few weeks ago and had no issues returning, my wife is currently in her home country to be with her grand children when they begin school.

I want to say we are very grateful to my country for the fantastic freedoms and benefits we have. This process of bringing the love of my life here, getting married and having an amazing future together is challenging but oh so rewarding and worth it.

We have all seen there is a great deal of news lately revolving around immigration and the possibility of changes coming down to stem the flood of those who would rather jump the fence rather than jump through the hoops you and I are required to do and are doing to be good citizens. We are also seeing the USCIS organization being stretched very thin as they try their best to accomplish the tedious task of their mandate which is to evaluate all of our applications in spite of the rhetoric,  misinformation and political grandstanding we see on a daily basis.

Don't lose heart!

I say to all of you who read this - Fear not! Everything in this life that is worthwhile requires effort, sacrifice, hard work and a great deal of faith! I just spoke to my wife on WhatsApp (she is in Kazakhstan with her grand kids and I am here holding down the fort so to speak). After our conversation I had tears well up in my eyes because I miss her but more because she is my soulmate. The day before she boarded her flight to her home country we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary! These three years for us have passed in what seems like just a few days. Yet, we have so many memories, so much history and a fullness of life that is indescribable.

[FYI - In a few hours I will call her again so I can test her on the 100 practice questions on the naturalization test (which, by the way she has answered all 100% for weeks now) because she never wants to make a mistake!]

Kindest regards,

Tony & Natasha

Yup, it was the extension letter, and I'm very pleased it was the official one. Commiserations to everyone who got the 'attorney' one in error, that sucks. Such a relief that I don't have to get a stamp in my passport this December. Will we get our 10 year Green Cards before the 18-months is up in July 2019 (I think?). Who knows!

Hi there!  I filed in January 2018 and on Friday I received the unofficial letter that says

“we have mailed an official notice about this case (and any relevant documentation) accordingly to the mailing preferences you chose on form G-28, notice of entry.... this is a courtesy copy, not the official notice”

We we didn’t even submit form G-28 and When we filed we didn’t submit any attorney info either.

My concern is, where did the offial letter go?

And if  we have a “courtesy unofficial copy” then is not valid?

Should we we call Uscis to let them know about this?

Thank your our for your time!
