SO I HAVE THIS NOW WHAT ?

Hi All,

I am also a October 2017 filer, I filed on Oct 10th I believe expiration of my GC was OCT21, I got the extension letter and nothing else my case status also updated on saying that it was transferred to my local office on March 5th. I have not received any other information than that. I have not tried to call or anything yet either.

On another note does anyone know if we are able to apply for our N400 if the time reaches as from my understanding we are suppose to have been LPR for three years in marriage, and the extension extends the two year right? so we are good?

Hello @mayfield - you can submit the N400 90 days before the 3 year expiration on your current green card. So that should be around the same time this year as you filed your I-751 last year.

If you need it, have a dig around this thread as someone posted the link to what's needed for the N400. You can file that online now and you can pay by credit card.

A lot of people have a 'combi' I-751/N400 running concurrently.

Current status: UK and USA citizen

12-Mar-19: I-751 (WAC18026) + N400 combi interview

Outcome

16 Mar-19: I-751 ~ Green Card in Hand (from submission to card delivery, 17 months)

19 Apr-19:  N400 ~ Naturalization Oath Ceremony, certificate in-hand! (from submission to oath, 6 months)

1 May 19: Voter registration card in-hand

3 May 19: USA passport in-hand

11 May 19: New SSN card in-hand

the extension letter is for ONE year. you need to get a stamp in your passport after if you are still not approved. you can apply for citizenship 90 days before or anytime after the 3 yr so basically a yr after you 751. it is not a must though, not everyone applies for citizenship right away and some ever apply.

Use this to determine when you may submit N-400 application.

https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/dateCalculator.html

If we enter October 21 2018 as the expiration of your conditional residency, we can see that your earliest N-400 filing would be 7/23/2018

If you haven't had a coffee yet this morning, you might want to grab one. New look processing times page and not the most heartening news about how long it'll take at either service centres or field offices: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

There's a USCIS webinar happening at 3pm EST today (22 March) that I'm going to try and get on:https://uscisconnect.connectsolutions.com/r2gmbe1a0ec/

(I only knew about it because another VJ member posted about it)

I think it could be about this, so if I can get in, I could post a summary for the Oct-17 filers.

So I finally got my Biometrics done today but how I got there is another story altogether. Turns out the original biometrics was mailed to me back in October but USPS lost it and I never found out. I contacted USCIS in January and they gave me the same generic message that everyone else got in the form of an email about how they would add me to the list if needed and I don't need to do anything. Since I am a little paranoid I scheduled an appointment via infopass and explained my situation to the officer that I was worried about it being so long since my application and I still don't have a biometrics. The  opened up my file on the computer to see that the Biometrics was missed as the original date was months back. He told me to call the USCIS helpline, speak to a Tier 2 and they would be able to "help" me. I did that and the tier 2 rescheduled my appointment. Luckily it all got sorted out but in case you guys are still waiting, get an infopass and make sure they haven't sent you the notice for Biometrics already.

Also could someone please update my biometrics entry on the sheet. Thanks

Here’s my thoughts on today’s USCIS webinar, ‘USCIS Online Processing Times Update’.

The webinar was all about the new look processing times page and the improvements made in case time calculation.
https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

It wasn’t about improving those actual times.

Some takeaways:

  • In Oct 2016 USCIS directorates formed the Processing Times Working Group to address concerns and high volume of case inquiries. Their aim is to reduce service requests, improve timeliness and make the website easier to read and interpret.
  • They started building data using these 4 forms: N400, I-90, I-485 and I-751
  • One of the objectives is faster responses to case inquiries for cases that are outside of processing times
  • Case inquiry dates should now update every 2 weeks rather than 6
    https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/more-info
  • In response to being asked multiple times, the USCIS team did say they’d look into posting a recording of the webinar. Didn’t say where or when though.
  • The webinar lasted about an hour

They asked for feedback (your perspective) on the new processing case time calculation, web page navigation and display, tools and resources. They did seem very keen to hear from us, so send your thoughts here: public.engagement@uscis.dhs.gov  (Don’t try case specific inquiries this way though, they won’t respond.)

Random observations:

  • It was an external stakeholder presentation, and it seemed like there were a lot of attorney agencies in the 500-strong audience. (There were probably more people who joined in a group using one connection)
  • Applying for status is such a soulless, faceless process, good to hear from real people working at or for USCIS – they sounded human :)
  • There was a Q&A at the end of the presentation, I got the impression the questions were mostly from attorneys and agencies
  • The presentation was PowerPoint on screen, and you had to dial-in to actually hear the presenters. I didn't know the number until 10 minutes in, but did see all the slides

Thank you GoodyByeGirl for posting this information.

I also see that now you can view your personalized case completion time after you login (Screenshot below).

I login in mine but did not see anything.

Anyone?

Hi everybody!

I didn't read through all of these comments so not sure if there is someone with the same situation as mine. Anyways, I filed my i751 on October 24th, received notice of action a week after and was so surprised how fast it made it. But my excitement has been gone for few months, as now it's end of March and I still haven't received a biometrics appointment. I call there every few weeks, but of course nobody can do anything. Last time a person submitted a technical request or something like that and now whenever I call they say I have to wait 30 days since I submitted that request so they will answer me. It is soooo annoying, it's been 5 months since I filed, does anyone here have something similar going on??? If it takes so long for just biometrics, then how long will it take to actually issue a green card? What if my 1 year extension expires by then?

Me either. I tried to ask on the webinar but they didn't take all questions. I've asked via the feedback email ie, at what point can applicants see their 'personalized case completion time.'
