@dilip oh okay, I can handle that. I thought you had to stay in there for a while or that they made it hard for you. I guess I’m gonna enjoy my vacations then. Thanks for letting me know!

I recently got back from india. Had to wait for 10 minutes while they took my letter and expired GC somewhere. I was freaking out wondering if the guy was going to lose my paperwork. Not a good feeling. Anyways got cleared and boarding pass was provided after that. Not sure what did they check but it took time for sure.

Hi @cj777, I’m planing to go to Latin America with a few friends for vacation in February but I have an extension letter as well. Can you please tell me why you had a terrible experience and decided to wait for the green card? I’m kinda scare to leave without having an actual gc. Thanks!

Well, i was travelling through Lufthansa. I reached the destination without any issues. When i was travelling back, they said i will not be able to travel since Lufthansa does not allow you to travel to US through Germany with the extension letter. they did not allow me even though i explained the situation and i was travelling with my baby as well.. since i had to reach US the same day i had to book another flight and travel.

I had my official 12 month extension. Guy at the emirates counter was young and very courteous. He told me that they are fined for boarding a person who does not have valid visa to USA on a flight US bound.

Transit visa requirements are different while travelling on Indian Passport. Europe does not provide a long term visa for visitors either. Painful to transit or travel thru EU for me.

What's the difference?

With an Asian passport and without an actual physical green card, Lufthansa may require a visa/gc to transit through Frankfurt. A pax with a European passport on the other hand may not be required to possess a US/German visa to transit and thus allowed through with an extension letter.
