I'm new here and not sure if I am in the right place, so forgive me.

My question: I need to reschedule my interview for CR1 visa in Montreal next month. It would be incredibly difficult for me to make it that particular day. I read that the only way to reschedule is to wait until the interview date passes and then reschedule a new one. Is this the ONLY way? Is there a way to call and get them schedule me for another day? Anyone have luck with that?

Also, what are the consequences if I reschedule? How long of a wait till next interview? Will this cause problems with my case?

Any input at all would help me so much!

Thank you in advance!!

You can always try calling them but rescheduling usually means the interview will be in the next month, or depending on when, even the month after that.  You get a random date in the month currently being scheduled.

As far as I know missing the appointment and then rescheduling is the only way.  Obviously you should email them and let them know you won't be able to make that day and keep any correspondence.  But most people try to make their appointments unless there's a death in the family or something else similiar that may take precedence.

You can't call the US consulate in Montreal.

~~moved to US embassy discussion from IR1/CR1 process and procedures.  Topic applies to any immigrant visa where your interview is scheduled by the NVC~~
