Self employed/ Independent Contractor

First I want to thank everyone for taking the time to help those in need.

I will be starting my career as a real estate agent soon, and for those who don’t know, agents are self employed/independent contractors even though they represent a brokerage.

My plan is after 3 years of solid work and high producing income that I would begin the K1 process with my German girlfriend.

From what I have read now, is that being an independent contractor will not suffice and I’ll need a co-sponsor even if I meet or surpass the income requirements to support her. This is so stressful, and won’t know what to do if this is true regarding what I read. My parents are divorced and I have a bad connection with my father and my mom does not work. I also have no siblings.

thanks everyone and take care.

for USCIS to file as self employed you need at least one year of tax returns showing you make at least 100/125% (depending on which form) of the poverty level for your household size and you wouldnt need a co sponsor.

So you dont have to wait 3 years.

What a relief! Thank you so much for answering my question Damara!

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I read that for the I-864P, that the self employed petioner will need to provide three years of tax returns/proof or sufficient income  And for the I-134 the petioner will need just one year?

Thanks again. I just keep reading conflicting messages and what to make sure.Thank you for your patience.
