NEW YORK (Reuters) - Americans are increasingly confident in the news media and less so in President Donald Trump’s administration after a tumultuous year in U.S. politics that tested the public’s trust in both institutions, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday.

The poll of more than 14,300 people found that the percentage of adults who said they had a “great deal” or “some” confidence in the press rose to 48 percent in September from 39 percent last November. Earlier this year, Trump branded the entire industry as the “enemy of the American people.”

The percentage of those who said they had “hardly any” confidence in the press dropped to 45 percent from 51 percent over the same period.

Confidence in Trump’s administration moved in the opposite direction

You can only say Fake News so many times, slowly but surely people will start getting sick of it, apart from his hardcore supporters of course, you know the ones that would still support him even if he shot some on fifth avenue in cold blood.

I gave up watching news a long time ago, but this poll seems to be as accurate as all the polls that told us Hillary was going to win in November.  Btw, it would have been nice if they had linked the poll in the original article so we could do a deep dive.  Guess we have to search for it.

The poll, like any poll, is only as accurate as its methodology and confidence intervals allow it to be.

 

I agree with you. It would be nice if they linked to the actual study. I'm always especially interested in how they asked the questions. Most of the studies don't do any validation of their survey questions so you always wonder how different people interpret the same question. A well designe survey will go through a pilot with feedback where questions are modified to make sure they are as clear and unambiguous as possible. That is for scientific studies with surveys. Most "polls" in the media don't bother.

Big surprise. A poll run by the press says people like the press. These same polls said Hillary had a 95% chance of winning. If you believe these polls I have a bridge to sell you.

Increasingly more people are beginning to see Trump for the fraud he is, but you can expect to always have those who'll happily go down with the Trumptanic.

There is a difference between disagreeing someone because of their different idealogies, and recognizing someone who is truly bad for our country regardless of political opinions.

 

Trump isn't bad for us because of his political agenda. He is bad because he is an embarassment to the nation.

 

I disagree with John McCain, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio etc... If any of them were President I would be unhappy because of our ideological differenecs.

 

I wouldn't be unhappy because they were disrespectful to the office they hold and the nation they represent.

I am not concerned with Trump's ideology. It's his words and deeds, past and present, that make him a fraud.
