Do you know what day your package was delivered? I know mine was delivered on the 27th. Just wondering how long it took.

Sorry, I don’t. I didn’t end up tracking the package when I sent it. I just know that I took it the post office on the 23rd and today received the text. Yesterday when I tracked the money order, it hadn’t been deposited yet. But I don’t know at which stage they do that.

I was literally considering how entry at JFK would be if I chose to have my flight pass through there since I'm waiting for my K1 to be approved. I've been reading a lot that it's highly likely that if you're going to visit your fiance, it's possible that you'll get a bit of hassle to enter the US. I have a trip all planned out for Xmas. Any advice?

Yeah, they could give you some trouble. There's a whole thread dedicated to it, here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/67796-yes-you-can-visit/. Most people seem to be fine though!

They'll want to be sure you're going to leave the US again, and not get married right away. Bring proof of ties to your home country. I'm visiting my fiancé for Xmas as well, and bringing my return ticket (obviously), but also the lease of my apartment, a letter from my employer stating that they are expecting me back after New Years, and the NOA1. I have an immigration lawyer friend - he said our best argument is that we're doing this the official way (petitioning for a K-1, waiting for approval, etc). This is expensive and time-consuming, why would we go through that if we plan on jumping the gun and committing fraud? Regardless, an officer could still deny you entry.

Someone on the May thread (I believe?) said that JFK can be particularly difficult though, which got me worried. I searched the forum a bit more, can't seem to find much more about that. The JFK reviews seem pretty neutral-positive: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/poereviews.php?poe=JFK. I already have my ticket to JFK, so nothing to do about it now I guess... 😆 When are you traveling? Let me know how it goes!

I'm traveling from Dec 23 - Jan 1. I'm bringing a letter from my employer as well as a print out of the email with the NOA1 and my flight itinerary. Not much else I can think of using. I went through that forum as well and some people were fine while others weren't. The problem I had with that forum was the lack of details as to why they were denied. I was able to sum it up for many of them as lack of evidence that they will not run off and become illegal immigrants as well as not being able to properly handle the questions they asked.  I was afraid about the hassle of JFK so I declined a change to my flight to go through JFK and instead stuck with Detroit. I'm hoping to get an immigration officer who is in a good mood lol

I'm also considering visiting my fiancée in February-March next year through JFK. I'm also worried I could have some kind of problem at the airport. The thing is last time I visited her (August 2016) I didn't have any problem at all, even when I said I was visiting my girlfriend, though at the time we weren't "officially" engaged nor had applied for the K1 visa yet. It's also true that the officer also asked me how long we had been dating (4 years at the time) and had previously traveled to the US twice before, so that might have counted in my favor.

I'm inclined to think that most times you just don't need to give any extra explanation, and if the questioning leads you in that direction, you'll be fine as long as you're upfront and have the usual evidence to show you'll be going back.

Well what do you consider extra explanation? Would you say that you'd rather travel again and say you're gonna visit your girlfriend again or would you say you're visiting your fiance?

So, I know I'm going to be a November filer since I haven't received the NOA1 yet BUT I just checked my bank account and it looks like USCIS deposited my check today. Is it weird that I haven't gotten an email/text? I did include the electronic notification form in my file.

Aww ... Well at least you're early November. Yea it's a little weird that you didn't get a text or email. Maybe you'll be getting it later today. I've read that checks cashed in the morning are usually followed up with a late evening - night text/email.

Thank you for the info! Hopefully I'll know by tonight. I'm just hoping that a cashed check indicates they're at least not going to send my application back and reject it....I know that doesn't rule-out an RFE but I'd rather have an RFE than a rejected application haha
