I was on the same boat until I made the call to the SS office. I called them to see how I could get hold of the "Status Information Letter". The call was very surprising because I discovered I was already in the system, they just didn't have my Social Security number; hence I could not find myself in the online tool. I still don't remember when I had applied, but apparently I was in the system. They verified all my info and asked me my Social Security to add and I was finally able to verify online. Try it! Ask them that you may be in the system but may not have your social security number on file.

Thanks for replying

unfortantely I did this already, I called selective service when I applied for college and I had just turned 26 that year, and they checked my social and I wasn’t registered 😞 So then I had to send them a letter explaining myself and they sent me a status of information letter which I have, and it says to bring to the interview, along with my written statement about why I didn’t register. I’m ready to be asked for all of this but when I search for similar experiences online, I don’t see anything that would help me. I just hope they don’t deny my application just based on this.

I also sent a copy of the status of information and statement letter along with my n400 application, and I’m gonna take the originals to the interview but I’m just looking for some type of reassurance that they won’t deny application because of this.

It depends on your age. If you applied for naturalisation on or after you turned 31 then you should be ok. The statutory 'good moral character' period 'looks back' 5 years. If you're between 26 and 31 then failing to register for Selective Service is usually considered a failing of the good moral character requirement, and your N-400 would likely be denied on this basis.

I’m 28 :-(. I appreciate the reply, but this really is disappointing since I’ve done everything else right etc. I wish they would’ve denied my application right away instead of waiting till I did everything and then study and panic for the interview and eventually be denied. I hope my case is different, pray for me 😞

@AAli313 from what i understand you will need to prove you didnt intentioNally not register. Theres hope as the last few lines say that people have succeeded getting naturalized in similar cases such as yours.  There’s many people that can provide you with a good moral character letter. In my husbands case our church committee gave him a good moral character letter signed and sealed

Just check my status online now. But I don’t have any notification of the schedule. Is this the in-line for interview ? Because I’m about to renew my passport, if I’m about to be interviewed next month I won’t renew my expiring passport. If  anyone can answer me. Thank you.

Yes that's the in line for interview. I got that message in november but didn't get scheduled for my internet until the end of December.

Thank you all for your replies I greatly appreciate it.

It really wasn’t intentional, my status of information letter is dated 2016 and I did try to register I was just a few months late from my 26th birthday. But I will go ahead and take your suggestions, I’ve already made a written statement and it’s signed and I will try to get a statement from someone important I know and hopefully that will help my case. Thank you again

Oh wow. Thanks for answering. I’m a bit worried because I still have a pending ROC for 15 months now. Hopefully I will get the interview letter very soon.

I've sent my N-400 application via mail, I didn't know that I could apply online. Is there any way to change my application to IOE to expedite the process?

Not after you've filed it.

There's a good chance you'll get an IOE receipt number, which will allow you to add your case to a USCIS account and it will then be almost identical to as if you had filed online.
