Hi, 

 

can an anyone please provide some information about applying for a SSN after arriving on a K1 Visa? The social security office states that you need proof of work or EAD, but I understand you can apply two weeks after arriving using your K1 Visa. Is this correct.? Thank you all in advance

No, you don't have to wait two weeks. A K-1 is entitled to an SSN simply by virtue of their K-1 status.

are you saying that one could apply for SSN before they submit their AOS/ as soon as they arrive in the country?

Go and apply for SSN at the earliest convenience. SS office is freaking clueless about immigration. If they give you hard time, just go to another office.

Yes this is true.  My husband got his SS card months before AOS, or even before the paperwork was filed.

You don’t have to wait two weeks.  Just take a copy of the I94 travel history form (link below) and a foreign passport to the SSA and fill out the SSN application form (SS-5).
