Hello.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'm hoping it is. I'll try to give as much info I can without giving too much personal details, for the sake of my privacy.

I've been living in the US legally for several months under a J-2 visa -- dependent of a J-1 visa -- and we're applying for a green card. I'm aware "mentally unstable" people are banned, so if someone attempts suicide, for instance, they'll be banned. But I wanted to know what would happen to the rest of the family if one of the dependents did that. And I wonder on both hypothetical outcomes: if they "succeeded" in their suicide attempt and if they "failed" at it. Just in case anyone wonders, this is merely a doubt/question that popped up in my mind, no "reasons" behind it.

I hope my question is clear enough. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Thank you!

as long as "they" receive help and are through therapy and potentially medication able to stabilize it should be fine. it is the people who are not able to stabilize that create problems. now and again to have an episode is ok but when one occurs you need to get them help quickly. call 911 and the police or paramedics will come and place the person in a 5150 hold where they are taken to a county facility and can be held upto 72 hours against thier will as the doctors try to stabilize them.

Thank you for taking the time to answer!
