We had our adjustment of status/ green card interview today.

My wife (USC) was nervous (as with any interview) but all in all it was a relatively stress free day.

We arrived to USCIS Centre in Buffalo, NY at around 9:30 - Interview was at 9:45.

we went in and waited until 10:05.

The gentleman called us and we followed him to a small room.

We done the oath.

He went over our basic information

(mother’s name/if either of us have kids/date of birth).

He asked us when and how me met (online - june 2016)

He asked when the wedding was (April  2017)

He asked where it was.

My documents said I entered on the 25 of March when I actually entered on the 20th.

He changed this to the 20th.

He asked was I ever arrested or convicted (I said I was, for drunk driving back in 2010)... I gave him a copy of the court report from the conviction and police certificate from Ireland - he said thank you and moved on. (I had already submitted court report with initial packet)

He asked about our co-sponsor (my wife’s mom) and he looked through our pictures that we brought, asked about one - and then told us I was approved and my green card would be out in the next 3 weeks.

I then gave him my medical report which I needed to get a new copy of after receiving and RFE for to bring to interview.

He looked through it and then told me the that in USCIS view our marriage is bonified, my green card is approved and that it would be out in the next 2-3 weeks in the post.

He told me that I can apply for naturalization in 3 years as my spouse in a US citizen, told us goodbye and that was that.

Online Case status hasn’t changed yet however.

Was a stressful journey full of ups and downs, cya in 2020 VJ. I'll be back when it's time to begin the dreaded I-751. Biggest advice - make sure you have a TON of evidence, be completely honest and you'll be fine. Good luck everyone! =)

So we didn’t have any joint bank accounts because I didn’t have a social (believe it or not I was actually approved, got home and the EAD was in the mailbox...)

i am on my wife’s car insurance and health insurance and we submitted these with the package with around 20 photographs

For the interview we brought.

- Health Insurance statement .

- dental insurance statement

- car insurance

- our joint gym membership

- about 50 pictures (mostly of trips we have taken together)

We did explain that because I had no social yet  I couldn’t get a bank account and he said that was fine, it was obvious we were a real couple

Good luck!

I have read 1 case where the petitioner brought a lot of Affidavits but the officer barely looked at them and also I read in another topic who actually talked to an "insider" who confirmed that those affidavits are not helping a lot. Make sure you have other proof too.

Edit: I was not able to find the other topc where the lady brought tons of affidavits but got denied anyways. (They did not have an apartment/joint lease, joint bank account, etc.)

I have another question. We had a joint property but what happened was my husband got injured towards the end of the year. So we sold some of our joint property, would there be any problem?

Thanks for the acknowledgment. I am just going to assume that it would be fine since I cannot change the fact that it was really what happened. Things happen.

Affidavits should always be notarized, especially if the couple lacks evidence of commingling of finances. It's all about you present your situation. In lieu of a lease/mortgage, you can get an affidavit of residence and of course, get it notarized. You can get an advanced health care directive, too. There are a lot of ways to show evidence of bona fide marriage without have joint assets. I feel for that lady who got denied, but maybe they could have been more creative.

You can show text messages and print them with IEXPLORER which prints them in a format that is accepted in courts of law. You can print GPS history to show both people are generally at the same location.

You can create a paper trail by pairing receipts and pictures of a celebration/outing/trip.
