Hi, I arrived in the US a week ago today and I need to get some sort of health insurance to cover me until we get married on the 10th Nov. Has anyone had any experience with k1 health insurance and have a reliable website or company to purchase from as I have looked at a few but the jargon baffles me and I don't want to purchase cover which isn't suitable. I'm just worried in case anything happens to me whilst I'm here and I'm not covered for medical treatment until we get married, then i will go on to my husbands insurance through work. Thanks

Does your husbands company offer health insurance to domestic partners as well as to spouses? My company does and when my fiance arrived in the USA we were able to get her covered as a domestic partner. We just had to fax them a form verifying we lived together and were in a committed relationship.

That is interesting and yes I will ask my fiance when I speak to him shortly and see if his company do this cover. He did ask though and the office said once we are married I would be covered, but yeah it's worth a try.

Thanks :)

You can go to healthcare.gov and fill out a form on their site; they will then call you up and discuss what would be best for you. It's a shortterm coverage thing, and it never includes pre-existing conditions. I have one at the moment, and I'm paying around 210 a month for it, until I can enroll in november via the marketplace (which does cover pre-existing conditions).

I ended up using these guys for temporary coverage: https://www.sevencorners.com/inbound-immigrant#/quote

It was easy to deal with, and gives you a few levels of insurance depending on what you need.

The healthcare.gov option sounds great too.
