Ok so I'm confused now. So if my brother goes over to say......Africa and gets a girl pregnant and the African girl has the child in Africa..... the child is a US citizen?

Generally, yes. The USC must have lived 5 years within the US, of which at least 2 of them were at age 14 or later.

Thanks, I never would have known that.

It can be a confusing issue that is not well taught in schools, unfortunately.  I had to explain to someone at the passport office here that both of your parents don't need to be American citizens in order for you to be one (jus sanguinis).  She was completely unfamiliar with jus soli too.  Tried to convince me that my American born son with one American parent couldn't apply for a passport because he wasn't a citizen.

No,  they will not expedite the process my fiance was pregnant at the time and we got rejected. If your fiance has been living in the US constantly for the last five years the child receives its citizenship at birth. Your fiance needs to register the birth of the child at your local embassy. I just finished the process for mine.

How long did the process take? I'm in a similar boat (fiancée pregnant with twins) and we aren't sure if we will have the visa in time for her to deliver here. Thanks in advance.

You could finish in a day if you have all the paperwork they require but you have to wait about 15 days to receive the passport.
