Knightsbridge Medical advice needed

Hi I was completing the medical questionnaire for Knightsbridge ready for our medical on Wednesday and there is a question about mental disorders.

I've been diagnosed and treated for Chronic Anxiety in the past and I'm now really worried (the irony!) that this may cause a problem as I noticed that they have put medicals on hold for people that have suffered with depression until it's been signed off by their GP to Knightsbridge.

Has anyone got any information or advice as to whether this may happen for me too? I've seen a lot of people mention depression but not anxiety.

For all mental health issues you need a report from your current treating doctor or your GP, get them to include diagnosis, prior/current treatment regimen and most importantly the words 'is no risk to themselves or others'

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

If you read the entire Technical  Instructions given to the panel physicians (Knightsbridge), you will see that their focus on the mental health component is on addictions and harmful behavior.

Technical Instructions: https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/panel/mental-panel-technical-instructions.html

Anxiety is mentioned:

  • Anxiety disorders that include post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorders, phobias, and anxiety disorders and can be associated with harmful behavior.

I believe something from your GP clarifying  the nature of your anxiety and that it was never associated with a harmful behavior gets you off the hook. They need to know you did not exhibit harmful behavior or no longer do, nor are you likely to exhibit harmful behavior in the future. Do read the whole link above if you want to understand what Knightsbridge has to determine in the area of mental health and how it applies to you.

When was the diagnosis OP? I had my medical a few weeks ago. In my medical history was a fairly significant mental health incident ten years ago. It was discussed but no further information required. I think the doctor was happy to see that no ongoing problem existed.

I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 14 and Chronic Anxiety when I was 19. A lot of it was related to just social anxiety and work stress. Nothing life-changing though.

Hi Salty,

I had my medical a month or so ago. I suffer from performance anxiety (presentations at work, public speaking) for which I take a beta blocker as needed. I was asked via a pro forma letter for a report from my GP which outlined:

- diagnosis & treatment

- any suicidal attempts/ thoughts; incidents of self harm or harm to others

- prognosis

- opinion on current mental state

There wasn't any info at all the summary I printed off from my EMIS records and it is an ongoing condition which is why I think I was asked for more info. I was a little amused that an appearingly low level and situation-specific condition would warrant further investigation, but the doctor said any mental health conditions were taken quite seriously.

What was more stressful (and the irony was not lost on me either!) was getting the report from my GP in time. They said it would take 3 weeks and I had to be really pushy (not in my character at all 😟) to get it in the timeframe.

Hope that helps and good luck!
