Officials have identified the shooter as Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old American who had multiple weapons on the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel, where he is believed to have killed himself.

A statement published by the group's Amaq propaganda agency claimed the attacker was a “soldier of the Islamic State”.

“The Las Vegas attacker is a soldier of the Islamic State in response to calls to target coalition countries,” it said.

Isis also claimed the gunman “converted to Islam several months ago”, without providing more details.

The wording of the release is similar to other attacks that have been inspired, rather than directed, by Isis.

Interesting.

But trucks are the weapon of choice in all these first world countries that ban guns.  It is either that or some type of knife like France and Canada.  Guns are designed for just one thing, protection.  They are much lighter than carrying around a police officer (yes, this was on a meme from a previous discussion, but I cannot remember who posted it, so credit to the original poster).

Lol a gun is not designed for protection, its designed to kill. It's a weapon, body armor, helmets, riot gear is designed for protection.

As I already said equating trucks/lorries with guns is stupid.

Yes, because you can kill a lot more people with a big truck or with a bomb.

As soon as I heard it on the radio I said that is fully automatic not a semi-auto with a fast trigger pull or a three round burst but a full automatic. It may be an M60 due to the distance dampening the sound who knows at this time. But this guy seems like the perfect guy who would have passed all checks. So what can be done with someone who passes everything?

Not have guns? Like in every other first world country? Not difficult is it?

So will everyone in the US be required to have a mental health exam annually?

No, but people who need help will be able to get it, and hopefully get it earlier. It's IMO, the biggest overall issue with our health care system in general. Health issues don't get better by putting them off or avoiding or ignoring them.

So apparently self-protection is not important to the MDL.  I suppose the leadership is fine since they have all their own private protection carrying around guns,

273 mass shootings in 275 days this year alone in this country. Almost one a day.

Do you see bombs going off or people getting intentionally killed by a vehicle in Europe everyday?

Yeah it is difficult because that WILL NEVER HAPPEN AT ALL. I am sorry but that will not happen because people like myself who I am a regular everyday guy will NEVER give up our firearms at all.

As was discussed earlier, some feel there needs to be better mental care.  however, as you said, this guy would have not been on the radar of mental experts, so we will probably need annual mental health checks and if you own a gun, you will be involuntarily committed (sarcasm that I hope everyone recognizes).

No one is ever murdered in Europe?

They are but no where near compared to the number of Americans that are.

You must have saw that Vice episode just like I did. What's funny is that's my wife's island in the Philippines.

I think it will come out that this guy is a ANTIFA guy who is wanting to kill Trump supporters because a majority of us country music fans are Trump supporters.

I don't know the solution but it seems to me that around the world those determined to commit such awful crimes find a way.

Guns, knives, vehicles, improvised explosives - you can't ban everything that could be used :(

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey
