You can bump fire using a rubber band, ban rubber bands?

Guns were available but they didn't carry the same lethal punch as they do today. It is true that societal rules have changed, and I also believe they may be a part of it, and maybe the combination of these rules with the availability of these weapons just make it all the more appealing to commit these crimes. In addition, the glamorization of violence has been desensitizing us to these events ever so slowly. I don't believe that those many decades ago we'd be having so many people speaking in favor or having civilians carrying semi-automatic weapons. The gun culture followed the crazies down that yellow brick road.

False.  Firearm development basically ended in terms of higher lethality by the 1950s /1960s. Since then its been about materials, barrel life etc.

there were less people 30 years ago. and there were less guns in circulation. bet that has something to do with it.

There was also stronger family values, no gangster rap, no violent mind numbing video games, more mental institutions, more respect for authority and a whole bunch of other things as well.

Maybe if the hotel where he was staying didn't have their heads in their rear ends they might have noticed what was about to happen. I heard he had a "do not disturb" sign on his door for 3 days. Maybe a policy change is in order?
