If better gun control isn't the solution, then people really need to be offering alternatives.

It isn't okay to just say "This is just the way it is, we can't change it". No other country experiences this, so there is SOMETHING unique about the US in this regard. If it isn't our huge stockpile and relatively easy access to firearms, then what is unique about us? What can we do to change it?

At the very least we should all agree on the fact that every time these events happen people try to avoid dealing with them until we all forget, and then the world goes back to normal. That can't continue to happen, because it means that in a years time we will just have another "mass shooting", possibly the "worst in US history" all over again.

We can do better. We can look at other countries and know that it is possible to do better. I don't care how we achieve that, I just want us to get there.

and like buying claritin d - if i attempt to buy too much (if i use a pill a day, i will inevitably run out day 31 of a long month and hit my 30 day limit) my name is flagged and i can't purchase my claritin. but with guns/bullets - buy as many as you want? logic.

They are just concerned that you might be over using your Claritin and suffering with side effects and if you owned a gun you could be a real danger.

the claritin laws are in place strictly to aid in watching/monitoring for those purchasing in mass quantities to make meth. personally, i don't see the point - as meth will be made no matter if i suffer my allergies or not.

Similar laws over here with some over the counter meds, especially the ones containing codeine. But you would assume the pharmacist would know it's own regular customers.

pharmacist can't do anything about it, they could lose their job for selling it when not authorized.. last time i was denying buying claritin, i was advised to go to my doctor and get a prescription and then i wouldn't have to show my license. its funny because even with a prescription, insurance wouldn't cover the cost. instead of being inconvenienced by showing my id and periodically being denied for a few days, i would instead have to take time off work to physically go to the doctor periodically to maintain a prescription that i have to pay out of pocket for. lol.

I thought it was just an over the counter medication for hay fever sufferers?

Depending on your doctor, some would renew the prescription without having to see you on a frequent basis.

My wife's "go to" medication in the UK for her migraines was Migraleve (sp?) which contains codeine. I was amazed when I went into the pharmacy and watched her just pick it up off the shelf. In the USA most update practice guidelines recommend not even prescribing it, let alone making it available over the counter. It is an incredibly inconsistent opioid, and incredibly easy to overdose on. Used to be popular for use in children post-operatively (tonsillectomies and the like) until people realized that the same dose can lead to a comatose child in one case, and do nothing in another.

Not to mention opioids are not effective for migraines, despite them being marketed as such in the UK. Opioids can cause headaches.

there's over the counter claritin, but it doesn't contain pseudoephedrine. i have seasonal allergies and 4 cats. and i'm allergic to cats. taking a claritin-d (with pseudoephedrine) a day pretty much keeps all my allergies at bay.

it's more the premise. i'd have to take time off work (lost wages) and take on a 50$ co pay, just to get the initial prescription. it's crazy that i have to jump through hoops like this for allergy medicine due to meth, when our approach to guns and ammo are just que sera sera..

How much claritin are you using? You know there are alternatives as well? Xyzal probably works better for most people.

EDIT: I'd say any medication you need to take on a truly daily basis is something you should see a doctor about anyway. There may be better options. (It's been awhile since I prescribed any allergy medications)

Unfortunately, some people will focus on guns, no matter the lack of logic.  But a killer who uses a truck to kill people, or one who uses a knife, or a crossbow, or a sword, or a stone, or a gun... what do ALL of these killers have in common?  And if you can answer that question, do you think perhaps you have arrived at the real root of the problem?

Fortunately they are in control of most of the places where there is day to day high gun crime so have plenty of practice in reducing gun crime, remind me how that is going?

why is this guy the reason? and who said anything about taking guns away from the majority of americans?

Snopes is fake news BTW. They should never be relied on to refute a claim.

Please answer his question and then provide us with a suggestion for a plan to turn our homicide rate around.

We are the worst in the world when compared to other high income countries. Our homicide rate is 7 times higher.

Please provide an alternative to fix that. Clearly it doesn't make sense to just say "Well what can you do, this must be normal" since it is clearly not normal around the world.
