Where was your contempt for the same fellow VJ'ers that were more interested in using the victims as a political tool?

I have a ton of respect for the victims but I chose to call out those who use them for political gain and you pick out my comment. I suggest you go back and read all the other comments because I did before I posted mine.

discussing a topic doesn't create political gains (or losses for that matter) if you're not in office or running for office.

Unless you know every forum member personally you would have no way of knowing a posters intentions.

So members replied with their political views on guns rather than the victims and somehow that is more acceptable,  and my comment is called ugly.

I am fairly open and transparent on my views no matter what.

The boards have been very quiet lately, it was like the left were all on holidays. The Russia story is dying and they had nothing to moan about. All is took is over 50 people to be killed and they are back in force.

Now it let's get guns banned, what a bunch of opportunists.

when put all together, it reads very political, yep. i've read this thread and like all the other post mass shooting threads - it isn't a place where folks pay tribute to the victims, but rather argue incessantly over the long running 'there's no point to gun control' sentiment in this country.

You should go back to the first page and see when it became political.  Hint: look at post #7.

People who use these events to discuss gun control don't do so for political gain.

We do so for gain of life. How many hundreds of people have to die from massacres before people value them enough to actually try to do something about it? Gun control for me isn't a political issue, it's a public health issue. In my professional life, the most important aspect is the risk of guns in the home for infant and child well being. However personally I see it as a public health issue for everyone. We are falling behind the world. Not in our politics, but in our abiity to protect our own people.

Also - If it's not better gun control, it is support for mental health resources. Well guess what - The GOP is bunging that up as well considering every plan they have put forward to repeal the ACA would cut resources and access to care. So they can't even use that as a red herring. We should be doing BOTH, but we are doing NEITHER.

mass shootings will always lead to discussion on gun control and discussion of gun control will always be political. calling a particular opinion on gun control 'opportunist' is outside the bounds of playing nice.

They use events like this to push their political view, and as I said in my initial post the left had been very quiet lately on the forum.

I don't live in the US yet so I have no real opinion if they should be banned or not, been to a range once on a visit. I can't imagine that I would be against greater gun control but in a country that can't agree on a simple voter id I wouldn't hold my breath.

What hurts is that a fellow American accuses people here of using this massacre as an opportunists haven. It is definitely not the truth. Anyone can start a topic on anything at any time and nobody needs 59 people to die for that. That is just horrible to say.

Which fellow American accused people of using the massacre as an opportunists haven?

Actually the mass shooting in France a bit back, lead to no discussion on gun control,  except that France has total gun control and it did not work.
