This is definitely terrorism, just listening to the audio is chilling, it sounds like footage from a battlefield.

Yes other first world countries have terrorism issues but what they dont have is a long history of mass shootings in society.

America has become so numb to these events that there will be people out there who won't be genuinely shocked by this. A few years ago we had dozens of kindergarten children mowed down inside an elementary school and nothing was done.

Why is a mass shooting any different than someone hijacking a medium to large truck and driving down the sidewalks of a bridge, or shopping area?  Do we need to ban these trucks too?  On another note, I am not completely up on gun laws, but there has been some speculation that this guy was using something like an M60 on full auto.  Can you purchase a fully auto M60 in the US?

Well the disaster that is OCare did not include psychiatric care, to any extent, lots of sad stories over the years.

I am not hopefully anything will be done, need total reform and a health care system that actually works.

That is part of the problem, psychatric care in this country is severely lacking.

Give them a pill and send them on their way seems the policy.

Yes - you can purchase existing M60 though need special licensing from ATF and yearly scrutiny/stamping fees.

Paperwork and scrutiny of such a person would be very high and I doubt anyone but a collector would get approval.

Thanks, and just to note, I am not saying that this was definitely an M60, it was just a friend that heard it and said it might have sounded like an M60.

I have no idea but here are the gun laws in Nevada.

Nevada laws on gun carry

  • Open carry is legal without a permit
  • Nevada does not ban 'assault weapons' and there is no magazine capacity limit.
  • There are no purchase permits, gun registration, or gun-owner licensing.
  • There is no waiting period mandated for firearm purchases and private gun sales are okay.
  • You do not have to "register" a gun to someone else
  • It is legal to carry concealed or openly in a bar or restaurant, even while consuming alcohol

What could possibly go wrong?

Extremely difficult, was there not a Congressman who had a problem with a child? Nothing could be done.

I’d be surprised if it was an M60 weighs 25lb and ammo is belt fed. The kick on it is pretty good - not so easy to use like Rambo in the movies.  Meant for mounted use.  I think more likely an AK.

Yeah, it's called involuntary commitment. However with both lack of access to mental health care and a pathetic infrastructure even for those who do seek treatment voluntarily, it's not a very proactive system.

Doesn't the person have to display something first to trigger this type of commitment?

And at a cost of over $11,000 it is unlikely that any average person could ever own one.

I agree though, sounds very much like an M60.
