Actually, this is statistically incorrect. You should do some research on the ranking of per capita gun homicides throughout the world.  Might open your eyes a little.

"Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed by guns than people in other developed countries, a new study finds.

Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the United States' gun-related murder rate is 25 times higher. And, even though the United States' suicide rate is similar to other countries, the nation's gun-related suicide rate is eight times higher than other high-income countries, researchers said.

The study was published online Feb. 1 in The American Journal of Medicine."

so if you want to compare the US to Columbia or El Salvador, you are right. If you want to compare the US to developed countries you are way off.

No.  Not even close.

Violent people kill innocent victims.  There is no such thing as a violent gun.  I left one of mine in the driveway one day, fully locked and loaded, with 3 spare magazines right beside it.  Sat there from about 0630 until 2130 and never moved.  Never aimed at an innocent, let alone pulled it’s own trigger.  Maybe I got lucky and got one of the non-violent versions, but I think not.

Look at Chicago or Saint Louis there's more death due to gun violence than terrorism.

I'm not a fan of that guns don't kill argument, nothing is dangerous if left alone. You could leave an antitank mine in your driveway without problem.

If guns are not the problems then some gun owners are. some people just shouldn't have guns. You shouldn't be able to get a gun off Facebook and so on.

I dont know if it's already the case but in my opinion people with a drunk driving history or substance abuse shouldn't have gun, they showed they can't be reasonable with a bottle or pills why on earth should they be trusted with a gun.

disclaimer: there's a majority of very responsible gun owners out there but like in most things the minority makes it hard for everyone else.

I found conflicting stuff online so called the sheriff Dept and asked, they said you have to be a citizen....did they lie!

Here’s the NC law on it.  My quick read says you are eligble to carry:

No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

LAS VEGAS—In the hours following a violent rampage in Las Vegas in which a lone attacker killed more than 50 individuals and seriously injured 400 others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Monday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Iowa resident Kyle Rimmels, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep these individuals from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

In the world of Trump this could actually be considered serious. Lol.

How about a little accuracy to go with your claims?

There is seriously wrong in US with all the mass killings / shootings.

Sad part... nobody has really foolproof ideas to stop it.

Not to take away from the reality of your chart, because even one gun homicide is one too many, but consider this...

Based on your chart alone, there have been an average of 12.5 mass murder death per year.  Meanwhile, bathtub drownings average 84 per year.

How about let’s pay attention to the MOTIVE behind the deaths as opposed to the method.  Then and only then will you be able to reduce the number of deaths, I think (I hope).

You quoted an article from the Onion.

Also the US is still above the rest of the western world.

Actually, the quote is from Wikipedia.  Not the best source, I know, but quick in a pinch.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

Why the “rest of the Western world”?  Why not just the world?

I admit we have a problem.  I just don’t think taking guns away from law abiding citizens would solve the problem.  What do you suppose the result would be if every responsible citizen in America turned in their guns today?  What do you think we would see in a month, 6 months, 18 months?

I was referencing to the post you quoted in your post.

I think the graph is fine. The western world is a more comparable thing as far as standards of living and such. Comparing the U.S. with Switzerland makes for sense than comparing with Honduras in my opinion.

I don't advocate taking guns away from people, my reasoning is of you are a law abiding citizen you shouldn't fear to have to go through strict background checks and such.

If you have a had problems with the law, well maybe you shouldn't be allowed to own guns. Same if you have mental issues, not cool for you but it's for the greater good.

OMG, I was so duped.  Not sure what kind of person quotes an onion article during a situation like this, but it answers a LOT of questions that have been asked about providing sources in this thread alone.  Credibility.... gone.

I agree with you on the background check thing.  Have never feared one, ever.  Have owned guns since I was 7, still do today.  Can get a CC permit in any state in the US.  Would never use a gun against a human being unless it would save lives.  But therein lies the problem... some people don’t feel that way about human life.  This guy seems to have been a law-abiding citizen, right up until he wasn’t.  Seems like he had ever right to own the guns he did.

I’d really like to know his motivation.  He worked hard at this to take so many lives.  W.H.Y.?

I agree with you. I hope we'll know more after the police search his house and devices. But it really is puzzling.

They found several guns at the hotel as well as at the house (don’t want to put a number, because it changes every 15 minutes).  “Electronic devices” and explosive materials.  This cat has been planning to do some damage for quite a while now.  Not sure if it’s accurate, but have read he converted to islam recently.  So many theories.  But we may never know.  Mental illness is such a hard thing to understand, as is radical beliefs that can motivate one to kill others.  I don’t think I will ever understand it.

I agree I hope they are able to piece together a story to help us understand this guy’s actions.  It is so early and so far we are only getting the usual words that this guy was normal, no political ties, no religious ties, etc., from his brother that admitted he hadn’t talked to him in about six months.  I wonder when they will get the chance to talk to the girlfriend who appears to be out of the country.  They also have to do the autopsy and maybe there was an underlying medical condition like they found with Charles Whitman.

Unfortunately, some people will focus on guns, no matter the lack of logic.  But a killer who uses a truck to kill people, or one who uses a knife, or a crossbow, or a sword, or a stone, or a gun... what do ALL of these killers have in common?  And if you can answer that question, do you think perhaps you have arrived at the real root of the problem?
