I don't think it's legal either, but it seems that it's happened to other people before. I'm guessing it's just due to employers' and recruiters' ignorance and lack of understanding of our status. He did pry about whether I have a green card or not, but next time I'll definitely be more careful about how I share information about my status. It really shocked me that this was an issue, I thought the EAD would unlock all doors

Hey,

Just thought I'd chime in here! I accepted a corporate job offer and start the week after next. They were confused about EAD at first but they just asked for the category my EAD was provided in, to verify that my GC was processing and after that there was really no issue. They just wanted reassurance that I wouldn't need sponsorship in the future, which I think is what most companies are concerned about! I also provided them with my NOA1 for my AOS just as further verification. There is a clause written into my contract which just states I need to prove my right to work in the US after the EAD expiry date kind of thing. As has been said above I think what scares employers more is that the EAD is only valid for a year and I totally agree, I think there is just a lack of understanding from recruiters but more senior HR people seem to know the ins and outs. Hopefully the next time around you don't have an issue, sorry they didn't give you the chance to explain!

CONGRATULATIONS!! If you don't mind me asking, what industry did you get a job in, and did you have a lot of relevant experience?

Aw thank you very much! :) Not at all, I'm in Digital Marketing/Advertising! I've got three 3 years of experience and a few internships, as well as my 4 year college degree! Honestly I was really worried about not having a lot of US work experience, but it really wasn't a problem at all!

HOW FUNNY!! I am trying to transition into Social Media Marketing and Content Creation! I did some work at home, which is a little over a year of experience, but I don't think it's really doing much for me. It's good to know that someone already managed to get a job, I was getting quite discouraged :)

Aw awesome, I actually specialize in that area! I would highly recommend glassdoor and indeed if you are looking for vacancies! Glad I could give you some encouragement, hopefully now it is the new year you will see an increase in companies recruiting as things usually slow down during the festive period!

Wow, a lot of marketers here! I'm also in digital with 5 yrs experience. Sadly there are no such jobs in my small town, but hopefully we'll move closer to Cleveland by the end of the year :)

Lil' update: waiting on my 4th service request for a typo and my 1st for expediting. This whole thing is so frustrating :(

Yeah, i've been stalking you, since you were close to my received date  I was glad to see your interview went well, gives me hope mine's getting scheduled soon :) Good luck with the job hunting! And in case you already went to a job interview, do employers require your updated SS card too?

I'm lucky to have a job lined up since I'm going back to the employer from my previous J1 visa. It's nothing special, just bartending, but it's definitely good money in the summer season.

That's great, especially for a touristy area! So i take it you met your husband on your J1 in the same town?

I'm going to shoot for a bank and hopefully they have a quick process :)
