October 2017 AOS filers (merged)

Hi! Im about to send my AOS package and I was wondering if any of you used the new option to get the ssn together with the AOS application.. and if you did, when did you get your ss card?

Im trying to decide if it is better just to do it myself..

I think the new I-485 with SS Card was not available to October filers.

i already have an ssn in my maiden name but i used the new  ead form to request for a new card (with the same number of course) but in my married name. i dont know though when the new card would get to me because i am still waiting for my ead. but this is a new thing (this ssn section on the ead form) so now i am worried if that will slow down my ead for some reason. in hindsight i am thinking it might have been better if i just popped in to the ss office myself.

yes it is. i filed oct and i used it. btw, the ssn section is on the new ead form (i-765) and not on the i-485.

I sent my package in the middle of October and I used the new form. I marked this option but I did not receive my work card yet. Then I don't know how long will take for me to get my SSN card after my I-765 is approved.

Hey Everyone, 

 

Just an update as promised, I received my EAD/AP combo card in the mail today. So very quick from when I received the NOA2s this Saturday (12/09). It has at the bottom of the card "Serves as I-512 Advanced Parole", you get a little information sheet about using the card for AP and a little pocket to store the card in also. Picture is in black and white and your fingerprint is also on the card

 

The letter that the card is attached to tells you to keep the notice should for any reason you need to extend or replace your card, you submit the notice the card came on and it will "speed your application".

I mailed it on 10/2/17. Was it available then? If yes, then I would get RFIE/RFE?

yes, it is already available by then. the new form was released 07/17/17. i don't know if you will get rfie/rfe though.

I already had a SSN from a previous J1 work visa so didn't need to apply for one! I don't believe there was a portion for this in the application that I filled out or maybe I just missed it because it wasn't relevant to my particular situation , I think they just asked for my SSN if I had one and I gave them the existing one I had!

I just called USCIS Customer service to ask when I will be able to check my case online, they didn't have an answer to that but they also told me that everything looks great with my case and I will definitely hear from them soon and that right now I am in a queue for being scheduled for an interview. They didn't tell me anything about the EAD, just said that everything looks good... I hope I get scheduled soon, I for sure know that my local office is not that busy at all!! Fingers crossed for all of you too!!

yeah me too, i already have my ssn when i applied for ead. but i did mark the option to receive the new card with the married name on it so don't know now how that will work.

Keep me updated, I think I ticked no to that because I thought it was only  if you didn't already have a SSN they would issue you one, I maybe misread it, that would of made life easier haha! OH well, I made an appointment with the SS office to change my name today, they said just to bring my EAD and Marriage Certificate, so seems fairly straight forward!

yeah, my local ss office is pretty good so it would have not been an issue to go there to get a new card. but i (in hingsight now maybe was not a good idea) thought to just say yes to that question there and save myself a trip to the ss office.

No I wish I'd done the same, would of saved me a trip too! Keep me updated, I'm assuming they will just send your updated SSN with your EAD/AP combo card!
