Sad news for me:

Request for Initial Evidence Was Mailed

On April 30, 2018, we mailed a request for initial evidence for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSC-. The request for evidence explains what we need from you. We will not take action on your case until we receive the evidence or the deadline to submit it expires. Please follow the instructions in the request for evidence. If you do not receive your request for evidence by May 30, 2018, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

10/4/17 was RD but why would I get a RFIE? It should be RFE right?

I am afraid that I won't be able to provide the document(s) they need. This is very depressing. I am losing hope here. My lawyer says to wait for the mail.

I see some people getting it for latest year W-2 document because they had not filed the return yet but the case took enough that when they had to provide tax return for 2017 they could later. I pray that it is just that for me so I can submit it.

Don't worry! It's not the end of the world to get a RFIE. It was the best thing that happened to me. After they received my response, my EAD card was approved 7 days later.

You are going to be fine. I am sure you will be able to answer them.

It was an RFIE as well so I do pray I have the same quick response you did. The other 2 we’re acknowledging you my change of address.

Has your AOS application moved at all since your EAD was approved?

Right but it seems like lost hope now. I THINK I know what it is and I am afraid I cannot provide a stronger evidence. I am hoping it is the 2017 W2/Tax Returns. RFIE/RFE is only awesome when you have what they want.  I have a lawyer with 19 years of experience though to help.

Hey, I received exact the same thing on the same day (30th April). Now I feel like they are buying some time to process it. Filed in Oct 10th 2017 and waiting for mail now. Please keep me updated if you received yours!!!

My RD is 10/4/17 and NOA 10/17/17 though. I don't think they would just change the system to RFIE if they were to delay. I hope it is really 2017 Tax Return/W2 because I see that recently some people did recieve a RFIE/RFE for it but they could not submit it in 2017 since the return was never filed. I THINK I know what it will be for and I do not have the stronger evidence. Perhaps, my lawyer missed something in it.

No status change on I-765 though? Is it because the process of EAD is automatically frozen on any RFIE/RFE on pending I-485?

You are going to get an action in your case soon. Keep us posted.

My AOS did not change since they got my response. But at least I have my EAD. The wait now is less stressful.
