Hank,

Thanks for getting back to me. I will make a post and ask for information to see if anyone that actually had it happen since Oct 1st.

I tried to call and email SLEC. Can't get through to a live person and no email response.

Thanks,

Kevin

My only other thinking on this is that the IGRA test will thin out those that actually need to complete SPUTUM, before anyone with a questionable xray had to complete sputum

We are like "watchers" here.. something new goes into effect, we watch to see the side effects and realities.

Hank, yes you are right on the fewer false positives now. I read this on the advantages of the new blood testing from the CDC:

  • Requires a single patient visit to conduct the test.
  • Results are available within 24 hours.
  • Does not boost responses for subsequent tests.
  • Prior BCG (bacille Calmette-Guérin) vaccination does not cause a false-positive IGRA test result.
  • 11 months later...

Tom&Angie  hi.. were you able to get the advance TB testing at all? If yes, where did you get it done? can someone go to SLEC without an NVC letter? because i have been reading some online posts and forums and they all say the same thing, that an NVC letter is required.

The reason i'm curious to know about this is because I applied for a job and my medical showed that I might have TB, although the doctor suggested "bacteriology confirmation", which i assume would be the sputum test. (I dont have history of TB and I dont smoke either). My fiance and I just submitted our I-129F petition last month. The only thing we have received so far is the NOA1. that's it. But finding out about my lung issues is a great eye-opener. We want to get this treated now to save time in the future. But our questions are:

1. Where can we get it done? If I get this done at other Saint Luke's branches, will that still count?

2. If it cant be done at other Saint Luke's branches, will SLEC let me in without an NVC letter?

And if anyone can please provide us more tips and enlightenment on this matter, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

TB treatment (if you do have TB) must be performed at SLEC. Otherwise, there is a 1 year wait upon completion of treatment. They perform DOT (Directly Observed Therapy) to ensure treatment is completed in full in accordance with CDC guidelines.

One can do the medical exam with just the NVC number. But you won't get that until after I-129F approval.

Somebody can certain do their own testing beforehand at any clinic for their own knowledge and/or start treatment sooner, but it won't change SLEC's process for the immigration medical. Even a clean sputum result would not rule out SLEC doing their own tests if the evidence supports a need to confirm it.

geowrian thank you for you reply.

yea, that's the problem. We want to save time and get it done NOW while waiting for the approval of I-129F approval. We are thinking of the worst case scenario and get the ball rolling. I've read from your and some other posts that it takes 2 months for the sputum test results to come back, and if that turns out positive, the treatment can take 6 months. So we are thinking, we want to get the sputum test done NOW by SLEC, so the 2-month time starts running (Sept-Nov 2018). Then, if it turns out to be positive, i'd get the 6-months treatment (Nov-May 2018).. we will hear about our I-129F on March.. so if we can get this done, we would only have to wait 2 months and not 8.. do you know if there's any work around or loopholes?

geowrian sorry.. i just re-read your first reply to Tom&Angie.. so you're saying that I can get the test done at other clinics, but the treated can be done at SLEC? Please correct me if im wrong, but i thought SLEC only does diagnostics. Now, If they do provide treatment, my questions are:

1. Will they treat me if my tests are done in another Saint Luke's branch?

2. Will they provide treatment without an NVC#? because we want to get all of these done prior to getting the results of the I-129F

You are K-1 you do not need the NVC letter, but you will need your interview confirmation sheet/email.   You will need your MNL#  (Screen shot from the CEAC website after you have your MNL#), being you have not received your NOA2 from USCIS .. you have a long wait ahead .... you will need to be patient.

You can not use a facility outside of SLEC (not even St. Luke's Hospital proper) without causing delays.   There is no "work-around" with this, SLEC is required to follow the process as stated by CDC.

Testing will be completed at SLEC if your medical shows need to complete the SPUTUM.   Does not matter what you bring from an outside facility, SLEC has to follow protocol.

If SPUTUM is positive you will then have to complete DOT through SLEC (6 months)

I posted a link to the requirements for the medical at SLEC in my earlier post.  Do read it.

Without your MNL# I don't see a way to complete the medical early.

Hank_ thank you for your reply

this really sucks.. 😥😣 i guess you're right, we need to be patient and all we can do now is wait till we get the I-129F results. I do have some clarifications though. You said, "You are K-1 you do not need the NVC letter, but you will need your interview confirmation sheet/email.   You will need your MNL# ".. i thought the MNL# is indicated in the NVC letter.

So how can i get an interview confirmation email if I have not yet completed the medical exam?

You can get your MNL# by phone ;)     Then you can print out your status page from the CEAC website for SLEC .. it will keep them happy..

Oh ya ... there is NOT a packet 3.   Everything is online for the K-1 processing     (and you must have your interview scheduled before completing the medical ... listed in the SLEC link I gave you earlier)

  1. It is. Or you can call NVC after they receive the petition, or wait until you get the ready email from Manila.
  2. USEM does not issue a packet 3. They send a packet 4 with interview instructions, in which it includes the requirement for the medical results.

Hank_ and  geowrian you are both very helpful 🙂

I want to make sure i understood everything correctly. So, the interview will be scheduled prior to the medical exam. now, what happens if the medical turns out to be bad (the 2-month sputum, and 6-month treatment)? geowrian mentioned and i quote " They will not pass her medical until she is treated and cleared, and you cannot have the visa issued until she has passed the medical". So, if the 2-month sputum will be needed (negative or positive), will the interview be rescheduled? or will the interview still proceed and k1 can still get approved but they wont issue the k1 visa until the beneficiary is medically cleared?

im sorry for asking too many questions. i've done research about k1 but this TB thing never came up and when it did, it just confused the sh*t out of me.
