Dear forum,

 

Beginning of November 2017 (slightly over a month from now), I will be eligible for N-400 based on the 3-years rule.

I would like to share my pros/cons on doing N-400 and hear you opinion.

 

  1. If eligible for online N-400, file it online and do not wait for I-751
    1. PRO: online applications are much faster and can be done in 3-4 months start to end
    2. CON: Can't see any
  2. if not eligible: check end of November what dates CSS is working on:
    1. If estimated time is 2-3 months, wait for the 10y GC
    2. Apply to N-400 after receiving the 10y GC
    3. PRO: Done with I-751 and 10y card in hand
    4. CON: Can't guarantee time estimation is correct; unforeseen changes/delays in I-751 or N-400
  3. if estimated time is over 3 month and close to 6 month
    1. Apply to N-400
    2. PRO: Start the citizenship process
    3. CON: Two pending applications with USCIS could cause confusions, delays; No GC in hand.

 

Would like to hear your opinion.

ROC (CSC)

  • 11/21/2016 - Package sent
  • 11/22/2016 - Package received
  • 11/29/2016 - Check cashed
  • 11/30/2016 - Two NOA1 letters received (NOA1 date: 11/22/2016)
  • 12/08/2016 - Bio-metrics appointment letter received
  • 12/22/2016 - Bio-metrics appointment (12/09/2016 - early walk-in)
  • 02/25/2018 - We received your case
  • 02/26/2018 - We received your case
  • 05/18/2018 - Status changed to New Card Is Being Produced
