Let's break it down to see what options you may have.

- If you're a US citizen, you can file a petition for your brother but that will take a long time, like you said.

- If you file a petition for your parents, that will take about a year or so.

- They can then become US citizens in about 5 years after they get their visa and then file a petition for your brother, so that's another year or so on top of that.

- They cannot file for your brother as LPRs since your brother is already married. But even if he were single, that would take about 5 years anyway.

There you go, those are the options you have. There could be others I'm not aware of, but that's what VJ is for, to brainstorm and help one another with things we don't know.

My Mother who is a USC filed for me in 1999 and we are nearly at the end of the process after waiting 8 years! Your Brother would be looking at a similar timeline as he would fall into the same F3 Visa Category as me. (married Son of US Citizen) and that's after your parents had become Citizens!

If I were you I would file for him as a Sibling of a USC which will put him F4 category. It will still take 10-12 years but you will have the ball rolling. You never know how things might change with Family categories with Immigration reform. Us Family members get a rough deal.

I too would be evry worried about bringing over your paernts without medical insurance. Perhaps your employers scheme may let you add them?

Sorry it's probably not what you or your family wanted to hear but that's the way it is.

Good luck.

Joke?

He could apply for a Work Visa depending on his qualifications and connections. If he works for a multinational in a suitable position he could look for a transfer.

Name one employer that allows you to include Parents on your health scheme.

There must be one exception to the rule.

Just one.

My Father is insured as a dependant on my Brother-in-laws Dept. of corrections insurance.

Lets not get into an argument here Boiler, we are just giving people the benefit of our experiences, and trying to help other's in similar situations to ourselves. We aren't experts......Or are you?

Then your Father is very lucky.... I have never heard of any employer including parents on health insurance.... spouse and children and disabled adult children but never parents....

I know for a fact that my health insurance will not cover my parents when they move here in 2009...

We considered it for my Mum, she will soon be at the point where somebody needs to be at hand, the Medical aspect killed it. Her social life seems to be centered on her medical issues, and the cost here would be prohibitive. Plus of course hse has all her friends etc nearby, a move is a big strain for a younger person.

Even Medical cover for us is getting to be an issue. And lets face it, it is only going to get worse.

The actual Immigration side is not the real problem.

Unless I get a job as a Prison Officer.

They can travel, but must maintain the US as their permanent residence. There are also limitations on how long they can travel, all detailed here if they wish to apply for Citizenship:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf

But if the point is just so that there son can move to the US it seems rather painful. They can file as PR's assuming he is not married, but they would still need to set up home in the US for 5 or so years.

Assuming this category remains.

Still wondering what retirees are going to do for Medical Insurance, Prison Guard parents excepted.

My parents will get there own medical insurance.... here in MA there are now lots of plans available to lower income people who cant get Medicare... and as they are coming to live with us, the money from the sale of their property in the UK will be invested to pay for all their medical costs for the next 35 years +

So it is covered...
