Hi all,

I (US Citizen)am recently married and I want to change my last name to my spouse's (he is Japanese). We are wanting to move to the States and want to submit the I-130 this month.

My question is, will be raise flags or take longer for our I-130 to process if I change my last name to his last name just before filling out the form? I live in Japan and have lived here for 8 years now, so I will change it first on my SS card and on my US passport.

Would this cause any problems for us? be in our benefit?

Thank you!

But there is a section where you disclose any previous names you may have had.

hi

no problem, it is always optional to take husbands last name, but you are authorized by the marriage certificate

so if you file the forms in your married names, if it says other names, put your maiden name as well, you will be sending a copy of your marriage certificate,

if it's not in English, you must attach a translation into English of said document.
