How was your experience with the interview at USEManila? Are they really strict about the proof of domicile? I don't have enough proofs to show them but I have a US bank account, letter from my relative allowing us to stay there, SSN, emails from schools that i want to enter my daughter, emails from landlords, resignation letter from my job, closing of Philippine bank account. Will that be enough? I want to leave together with my family. I hope you can give me some ideas.

Hi @joanamber! We have the same situation. Am also a dual citizen here in the Philippines and have been here for more than 20 years. Just submitted my I-130 forms for my husband and two kids last sept 25. And currently waiting for the approval of my petition. My problem is also establishing proof of domicile. But I plan on opening a bank account in the U.S. and will be coordinating with the different schools there for my kids. Still thinking of other ways to establish proof. What about you? Have you submitted your I-130 forms? Do you already have a scheduled interview? Just curious on your timeline. Coz we plan to migrate there on May 2018. Hopefully, their visas will be out by then.

Hi! I’ve read some posts that the embassy is quite strict regarding the proof of domicile. So I changed my plan and I’ll go there ahead of my family to arrange things. I sent you a private message please check it. Thanks!

Thanks @Haltom Family! Need additional help for proof of domicile. I tried opening a bank account in the U.S. but unfortunately I had to be physically present to do this. Also tried to register my kids at a specific school but also had to be physically present. So really don't know how else to go about this. I've been living here in the Phils for more than 20 years and never really had the opportunity to establish myself in the U.S.

I've already asked three of my relatives to fill out the I-864 and they just accomplished it complete with supporting docs such as their income tax, etc. Hope this will be enough.

What other docs do you think I should bring @Haltom Family? I'm planning to schedule the interview on Feb 1. Medical to be accomplished a week before that. Your input will greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try a different bank. I was able to open accounts with Schwab and Chase online while living in Mexico in 5 minutes. You can also try to get moving quotes and apartment rental agreement quotes.

As Jorge mentioned, you can try and open a bank account online using other banks. You may also request a letter from your relative/s or wherever you're staying when you get to the US that you'll be living with them indefinitely- if you're not going to rent an apartment/ house.

My husband was only in the Philippines for about 9 months. For proof of domicile, we had his MN driver's license, bank account, and a letter from my MIL that we're staying with her until we get everything settled. Guess what? They didn't ask for any of this. Yours is a little bit complicated though as you mentioned that you've never had the opportunity to establish yourself in the US.

Hi Ayam,

Good day to you. The good thing about your situation, you already secured a signed I-864 and supported by proper documentation from your relatives.  A signed that they are willing to help. The question here, are the documents already in your hands?  Our suggestion is if its not too much, ask your relatives to write a letter  of invitation indicating their willingness showing that you and your family have a place to stay and will not be homeless and will be courier to your address in the Philippines.   The proof of domicile is to prove that you have somewhere to live in the United States and will not be wondering putting the immigrating family in a bad situation, and a source of income while you are in transition. Another important thing to consider is you and your family need to be well prepared what you gonna say at the interview, and your plans  of reestablishing yourself in United States.  The documents are very important but the way you all will handle the consular officer questions at the time of the interview will also matter.

Please consider also how you will address the question such as what is your plan when you get back in United States specifically employment (if applicable), children education (name of school and if you already inquired with them), place to stay (if the room is already available for you and your kids) and where at? The income of your joint sponsor (make sure that you know it and calculate it plus yours and are more than enough to cover the poverty guidelines).   Be well prepared.   God bless you and hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply @Haltom Family! Yes all documents are with me already. Just got it this month. Also have a letter from my uncle that we'll be staying with him as soon as we get there. Really hope that it would be enough.

Yes you're right, we should just really be prepared for the interview. Really hoping that everything goes well. Thanks for all your tips! Really appreciate it!:)

Just want to share with everyone that my family's (husband and two kids) application for immigrant visa was approved yesterday!

Surprisingly, they did not ask too much about my proof of domicile.

Thank you to everyone in this forum for all your help! Especially to @Haltom Family, @joanamber, @Laleh, @ysai and everyone else who took their time to answer all my inquiries.

Your suggestions really helped us with our application process! Again, thank you!
