Is there anyway to speed up the process?

My wife and I applied for our visa when we were living together in a different country. Due to visa issues she has returned home to America and I am still in my home country. I has been Nearly 8 months since we applied and unfortunately we got stuck at Nebraska. Is there anything we can do to speed up the process? Both our lives are in limbo as she doesn't want to move away from family until I get there and I can't start any new projects with work as I have no Idea how long ill be here for.

Is there anything we can do at all to move forward faster?

You can always visit, I assume you have 4 months is to go and then 6 months to move. So no reason to hold off projects assuming they will be finished within 10 months.

Waiting is the most difficult part of this process it seems.  I'm sorry, but there is nothing you can do unless you can meet the requirements for an expedited case.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

There are a few things you can do but you may learn that you just have to wait. My case for example took 408 days.

She can make Info Pass apt on line with USCIS. She can contact her politicians.

One more thing:  Keeping busy and visiting can help pass the time.

I am in the same boat as you in that I've been stuck at NSC for 8 months. It is totally frustrating that the average processing time at Potomac is 5 months and the average processing time in Nebraska is 10 months. Vermont and Texas are 2-3 months ahead.

A few of us have emailed USCIS to ask for Nebraska's processing times to pick up. This is the contact information:

1) Donald Neufeld - Associate Director, Service Center Operations Directorate
Email: Donald.W.Neufeld@uscis.dhs.gov
2) James McCament - Deputy Associate Director, Service Center Operations

Email: james.w.mccament@uscis.dhs.gov

UCSIS Headquarters
111 Massachusetts Ave
Washington, DC 20529-2140

Donald Neufeld bio

Donald Neufeld is the associate director for Service Center Operations. In his current role, Neufeld oversees all activities at the five USCIS service centers located in Dallas, Texas (Texas Service Center); Laguna Nigel, California (California Service Center); Lincoln, Nebraska (Nebraska Service Center); Burlington, Vermont  (Vermont Service Center); and Arlington, Virginia (Potomac Service Center).

James McCament bio

James McCament began serving as the permanent deputy director of USCIS on March 31. Until the nomination and Senate confirmation of our next USCIS director, McCament will also serve as acting director of USCIS.  Since August 2015, McCament has served in the capacity of deputy associate director, Service Center Operations, overseeing the work of the five USCIS service centers in their processing of more than four million applications annually.

i really don't think there is. The USCIS owns us and they do what they want. i will advice you to give them a call. explain your situation to them and see if they will do anything about it. They been really slow this year.

Welcome to the club, Z!

it's a sucky club since we have to wait twice as long apparently, but hey, at least you're not alone? :P

A bunch of us are sending emails, contacting senators/congressmen, calling USCIS, tracking apps and cursing a lot. (That last part might just be me) Nothing is guaranteed to work, but you can do either one or a combination of them. If you have a valid reason to expedite, you can try that. I feel like a need a drink right now.

waiting is nothing.. It took us 3 years to get the visa and we were home right before 1 week of our 3rd anniversary.
