I had my medical yesterday with Dr. Weiner.

$250, a couple blocks from Parliment, but there's parking lots close by.

He's very nice, medical was very quick with a short wait. Then I had a 15 minute? hm walk to the lab, x-ray and bloodwork. BUT there's a 10-14 day wait on the results, and they have to picked up.

According to the receptionist they are told by the Consulate that they are NOT allowed to mail, courier or anything else, the results to us, *sigh*

Forgot, three passport pics, immunization record, passport, OHIP card..or similar, packet 3 letter from Consulate, prescription glasses if you have any.

I pointed that out to them. The fees vary all over.

But she was adamant about the courier thing, she did keep saying "YOU could have SOMEONE pick it up for you" I'm not sure if that's a hint to have a courier pick it up or not. I'll wait until they call and ask.

The receptionist told me I could call the consulate but the woman who deals with this is a BEEETCH, her word, lol. Asked her if she had dark curly hair and told her about Visa Journey and some of the reviews, she just laughed and said YES it sounds just like her.

I had mine with Dr Doan in Halifax, and they gladly couried it to me, for around $20 I believe!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

He is the other doctor I am curious about!

Wow, over a week to get the results. And that's strange that other offices mail the results but this one says the Consulate says they are not allowed!

What exact procedures did you have to go through?

I'm not sure what you mean by procedures. I went to the doctor's office, gave them my info, he did a very QUICK exam, then sent me for a walk to the other place, where I had a chest x-ray, then I had some blood drawn in the same building.

I just heard from someone who had a medical in Saskatoon, and they have to go back and pick their results up as well

I think they'll probably take blood from him.

BTW, at Dr. Seiden's, they didn't do an eye exam on me, just asked if I wore contacts. God, they really didn't give me much of an exam! I could have had a raging case of chlamydia and they wouldn't have known it. :P

lynamon,

Dr Weiner asked if I had glasses, I told him reading glasses, he didn't ask me to put them on, just made me read an eye chart across the room quick.

Sounds like every doctor does something different.

Hi lynamom

My twin 5 1/2 y.o. girls just had their medical done along with me....the Dr. just did a once over with them. No blood was drawn or chest x-rays. Heck, they didn't even have to pee for him. The only thing is that I have to get them Hep B shots. They are given in Gr. 6 here (Saskatchewan) for free, but since I'm requesting the shots I have to pay. There is a series of 3 shots. 1 now, 1 month from then and then 6 mos. Each shot is $21.00......so of course more money that I just seem to be running out of....where is that tree anyways?

The S'toon doc made me read a chart with my glasses on. Not sure why they didn't want me to look at it without them....????

You know when you go in and have to leave a urine sample they usually give something about the size of a test tube to pee in?? Well anyways the doc in S'toon gave me something similar to a cereal bowl. I didn't quite know what to do. I had to keep my laugh to myself. I asked "so do I just leave it in the bathroom?" she (nurse) shook her head and a I had to carry my cereal bowl full of pee back to her. OK that might be TMI.....but I just had to share....cause it was the funniest thing that happened to me...that day!!!!

In all honesty I found the medical exam was a breeze and I didn't even study. ;)

Hmmm now I'm thinking the doctor was just trying to get rid of me. I didn't have to do any samples.

I couldn't read a chart across the room with my reading glasses, guess that's why he didn't make me put them on.

Feeling like cutienpurg's hubby now :crying:

Heh, I didn't give a sample either. All Dr. Seiden's office did was:

- blood for HIV & syphilis

- chest x-ray

- verbal questions

- minor physical exam which consisted of a breast exam and looking at my feet (why, I don't know)

That's it. They didn't even weigh me. They asked ME to tell them my weight and height.

Now I feel ripped off!
