Hello everyone,

 

So I recently sent the k1 visa application. Now just recently I lot my birth certificate. I am the petitioner. And I was wondering will it be a problem? I did make a copy of my birth certificate and I sent it with the package. So i was wondering. Will i need to get a new one? Will it pose a problem if i do make a new one.

Get a certified copy from the vital statistics office. You should keep a certified copy so that you'll be able to produce a photocopy for anything in the future and you'll have something to match a photocopy back to :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

The petitioner doesn't need his original or certified copy for the i-129f petition or K-1 visa process. He needs to send a photocopy of it with the i-129f package (or all pages of his US passport), but not more than that. However, having an original or certified copy of the BC is always recommended of course, especially if you need to take more photocopies of it like KULtoATL said. So yes, you should get a new one.
