They were responding to my email trying to correct Sam's birthday. They didn't fix it but the new case number was in the email so mission mostly accomplished as far as I'm conceded! He's calling first thing tomorrow to make his medical appointment. CEAC says In Transit so our case should be in London soon!! I'm so glad this latest roadblock has been overcome.

I moved abroad after university and have been away for 4 years. So I haven't payed US taxes... I did pay taxes in the countries I was working in (China, Germany, Thailand). So if the federal tax return requirement is for me, would we just explain that I've never worked in the states and that I've been abroad? Would the affadavit be enough?

Check tax law that you were not required to file....... I've read a lot of discussion in here that says filing even though out of the States is still required, but get your info from a good CPA firm or a Tax Atty.  Also see the post below, it is a good list of docs to take to interview......

I have an infopass appointment scheduled for Monday to find out why we are in "extended review".  Hopefully I'll get some answers and finally receive NOA2.

If you are a US citizen and have been working abroad you are actually required to file a tax return each year and pay taxes on earnings. It is the one problem with being an American and working overseas. You might want to look into that issue because I suspect you may run into an issue down the road there.

Just email them first.  If they happen to get the email before your number is assigned, you get back an email that says it hasn't reached NVC yet and inquire in 6 weeks.  If they happen to get the email after the NVC number is assigned, then they will reply with your NVC number.  It's totally Happen Chance and Circumstance but we're getting used to that, right?

Tax law is really complicated.  Actually it could be that they didn't need to file.  There are some who are exempt, as in below threshold income, or a dependent of a US Taxpayer who files (like a student studying abroad)  To read more on the matter, the IRS website has some ambiguous language in their publications https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/us-citizens-and-resident-aliens-abroad-filing-requirements      Makes good reading to go to sleep hahaha  But the OP will have to find the exemption or do some late filing.

My goodness ya'll, what a day. So as you all are aware Moscow isn't moving as quickly as they were. I woke up this morning to an email from the Embassy basically encouraging us to look for an embassy outside of Russia for faster processing. I put a call into US Embassy in Finland and spoke with a lady who gave me the email address to write about transfer. So I wrote the email and really got a little excited because Finland doesn't process that many Visa's really, so interview date would be pretty quick, but then there's the language barrier. Kseniia's English is a little lacking, so there's a bit of concern for Embassy in Helsinki. Well we talked about it and by about noon we are thinking it is a good move. Ok so I get home and login to check and what do ya know .. Interview date in Moscow for December 19 . Well I booked it, but now I bet I get an email Monday about case being transferred to Finland ... Oh what to do what to do. Finland would be great because most likely we would get a date real quick, but I haven't heard much on Finland and the CO's there and what if they don't have translator .. which would leave me translating and my Russian isn't the best either. I know enough to get by but I am not fluent by any means ... what would you all do in my position, especially if Finland would accept the case?

Yes we do! We're planning it any day now. We've just been busy a bit. We're not rushing on anything because the medical could be done 2 weeks before the interview. But maybe we'll do it earlier. Thanks! :-)

Hey again everyone.  We went back to social security on the 18th and this time (our second time going because they wouldn't let him submit an application, they said we had to wait 2 weeks.) I thought they wouldn't have a problem taking him in the first week because others on here have done it and from what I read everything's electronic now? But at least this time his application was submitted and we got a receipt. They said he'll get it within 2 weeks. Also, went to pick up our wedding bands but unfortunately my band had to be adjusted again because it was still a tad too big for my small little ring finger lol.  I also got my engagement ring adjusted because that was too big as well. My fiancee picked up his ring that we ordered though, so towards the end of October I'll be picking up mine. We also ordered a keg of beer for the wedding, even though I'm not much of a drinker, were having our wedding and reception in the backroom of a private bar that my mom works at, so we got a discount and it's very spacious. I know others will want to drink, so we got miller lite because I was gonna get lager originally since I wasn't aware it made people drunk quicker. It's a good thing my mom came along because I don't know anything about that. It's probably an unnecessary expense getting the keg of beer because were in the bar, but I know people won't want to pay for it and have to keep walking out of the room into the bar, so I figured it was easier. So, everything is basically done. I ended up buying a few more things today for the wedding that didn't seem to come to mind right away. Our wedding colors are Purple, White and Black so I ordered some candy for the wedding favors and some personalized wedding tags with our names and date were getting married on it, with a little purple heart. They're so cute, I'll have to show all of you. I got so much candy I'm pretty sure were gonna have plenty to ourself lol. I found these awesome bride and groom candy boxes on eBay for about $13.00 free shipping and you get 100 of them. It took me forever to find what I wanted because I'm super picky but it was worth spending the time. This is the moment I've been waiting for since March, and it feels so good that were actually doing everything now! It's still hard to believe and he's been here 18 days now. The idea of a wedding guest book came to mind and I found a beautiful Black and Red one for a good price. As I write this I'm just paying for the last things (let's hope no more, we spent so much in the past month way over what we anticipated, but at the same time, we were originally just getting married in the court house. The reason why were getting married by a pastor now is because all of the court houses were booked and I would leave so many voicemails and talk to reception but they would never call me back. I'm not sure how it works any where else but they said I had to speak to the judge to arrange our wedding date and I never got to speak to any, even though I called about 7 within 45 minutes of us and all of them were completely booked till the end of Nov or end of Dec. So we just decided to have a traditional wedding but I feel that was meant to happen anyways. I can't imagine getting married in the court house now after all of this. I'm happy everything happened the way it did. So, that's about it guys. I'm just about to pay for the centerpieces for our wedding and it's a fiber optic rainbow flower piece, which is perfect and Purple at the base. Everything matches as it should and I made sure to keep everything those 3 colors haha. The only thing I didn't hire was a photographer, my aunt is just going to take a bunch of pictures on her phone for me, but since I do want to have keepsake pictures that look a bit professional we bought a backdrop drape stand and I'm just waiting for the seller to get back to me on some specifications for the backdrop. It's Black sequin (of course :P). So I'm pretty happy because even though everything was pricy I know it's only going to make the celebration more exciting with everything we invested into it. I know I already started compiling receipts for AOS even though I won't probably need to send half of them, I'm sending them everything we got for the wedding. It worked pretty well by sending them basically everything to USCIS and taking everything to the consulate. We didn't get any RFE's and approval at 4 months. Consulate seemed surprised yet happy to see all the papers my fiancee took with him. So I'm just going with that approach and I'm feeling confident he won't have any issues getting approved for this next stage of the process. I don't think anything could be as hard as it was when we were separated so to me this is a cakewalk and I don't mind doing the paperwork. So I think I will end it here, sorry for talking your ears off and don't want to come off as bragging but I guess I'm just really proud of how far we've come. I have my favorite cousin who I grew up with giving me away at our wedding because my dad and me don't have a relationship, and my brother is gonna be my fiancee's best man so everything is basically transcending and my stress has decreased massively within the last 1-2 days (ironically, it was a couple of busy days for me.) All I have to say is meditation. It really works.  I'll be back soon and hope you guys take care and stay safe.

Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone who's been approved recently. I had my medical on 18th in Moscow. And it went absolutely smoothly (even though I'd been panicking lol). As I texted before, my interview date was December 27th but yesterday, while I was on the train back to my hometown, a woman from a Russian fiance forum texted me saying there're dates for December 19th. Oh golly, I have spent 40 min trying to remake an appointment because of a horrible reception on the road but now I'm super happy as there's a good deal of chances of me coming to Nebraska before New Year. So now it's literally 2 months before my interview. stressful!!
