Just wondering how you can know Shehide's SSN is going to arrive next week. I mean, I've been waiting for mine almost 6 weeks already! :D

I'm not sure why yours is taking 6 weeks. Two weeks is the normal delivery time and that's what the SS agent quoted us as to when to expect it to arrive in the mail. I can understand your agitation. Especially if your SS office is anything like the one in Orlando. They have a 30 minute wait just to be able to go into the building to sign in for a number to wait even longer to talk to someone.

Quick question. My fiancée cousin would be filing the affidavit form for me. So only he has to fill the form or my fiancée has to fill a separate one too?

and what documents do i need from both with the form (if applicable)

Thanks for the tip and good for you :)

I applied October 23rd and was told to give them 5-10 days Novemberr 13th, so this is plain ridiculous.

I'm waiting for the Informed Delivery email to arrive too before calling again. It's just 8:30am here, so they are still closed anyway :P

So...

I've just been 25 minutes on the phone talking with the Social Security office to try and find out what on earth has happened to my SSN, that I applied for almost 6 WEEKS(!!) ago.
They come and tell me they mailed my card on November 13th (yep, that's because I called that day after 3 weeks of nothing) and it should have arrived by now (duh! Why do you think I'm callling?).
Then they proceed to ask me if I ever have had problems with my mail being delivery at our address. Well, you know what? This is my first time getting mail here, but no, no issues as far as I know (how could I know anyway?). We never have had a problem with that, and we even have USPS Informed Delivery, that has a way to show us mail for former tenants here, even if then it doesn't show up in the mailbox itself... so that would be like a cosmic coincidence, don't you think?

So the final conclusion is they have agreed to send me the card again, and it should be here in 10-14 days: great, more waiting, with me being unable to open a bank account or have a leasing contract and just have a normal functional life... As if a wedding (I didn't wan)t in 15 days wasn't enough, plus apartment hunting and getting everything ready for AOS (yep, I should start working on that soon...).

Come to this point, I don't even know who's to blame here. I can't say I have much faith in the US Postal Service, which happens to be quite overpriced when you have to send things abroad, compared to the very affordable Spanish postal service.
I don't know what to think about the SS either... Which by the way, offers you the option to talk with a Spanish operator, so I picked that option and ended up having quite a ridiculous conversation where the SS officer would talk in English and then a gentleman would be translating everything she was saying to me and vice versa... what ended being a completely waste of time, because I could perfectly understand everything she was saying to me. I just thought why not to take advantage of a service they offer, specially when I tend to be insecure about my own English.

All in all, I guess you'll have to forgive me for my rant, but I'm not a very happy camper today, and I'm really sorry, guys, but I still have to find anything on which this great country excels compared to Europe... apart from roads, of course, but I don't even drive, and I'm sure getting a driver license here (if I was interested in doing so) would be another living hell.

Sorry.

@Estibaliz I've found the U.S. mail service varies widely. I know I often get mail for other people at my house in Oviedo and the address on the envelope is clearly not mine. The only thing that matches is the house number. I circle the address, write DELIVERED TO WRONG ADDRESS on the envelope and put it back in the mailbox so it can find its intended receiver. But, by and large, they are very reliable at delivering my mail. My apartment mail delivery in Jacksonville is much less reliable.

I'm sorry to hear your SS mail was lost. Your replacement card should only take a week or less to arrive. It's not like you haven't waited long enough in all of this process!

Yeah... wishing someone would have been kind enough as to do that with my SS card, but oh well. I'm doing what I can, but it's frustrating when you feel stuck and hitting against a wall constantly...

I'll let you know when the card finally arrives :P

Hello VJ family. I was wondering, are there any petitioners on here live in California close to LA and soon to be spouse coming to California as well? I'm asking on behalf of myself and my future Husband because, this process is not easy, and it would be great to find some friends we can hang out with together that really know what we had to go through. Most family and friends don't understand, in a relationship like this and it seems taboo to them, So it would really be refreshing to have friends on the same page that we know wont pass judgement, or ask us a million questions every time they see us. and more importantly, question our Love and think we have a hidden motive about our relationship......

Ps. Just a heads up for those of you that are in the June and May Forum, I will be posting this message there as well.

...Are September filers able to get in on this too?
