Maybe you or someone can can answer this.......    I'm going to SSA in the morning..... I have the papers ready, the I-94 was online in a few days, and the SSA has an office close enough to be at in 15 minutes..... relatively simple.  However, I am curious of one thing.....    Why am I doing this??????   I mean, eventually a SSN is needed to work, but what is the benefit of doing this before the wedding?  Is it the continuity of the name from K1 to name change so a track record is established? or a SSN is needed for AOS??? (because AOS can be SSN or A number).  Just wondering what is the reasons a SSN is applied for right off?

SSA has your name in the system as your name from your passport. In most states to get ID's issued you need your SSN. The problem is that to get a new last name on your documents you first need to get it updated with the SSA. So you get the SSN issued in your initial name, then you are able to go back and get the name change done. Then with the new SS Card with the name change you can get your other documents/id's done.

Mostly it just saves time since everything else is based off the SS information.

AnJ Co provided the 2Go website.

You probably know this, but I will clarify for others (those going through Manila) who haven't reached this stage.  The UID# at the bottom of the Embassy appointment letter is used as the 2Go tracking number once the visa is issued.  So, once the CEAC site lists the visa as issued, in a few days you can track it.  They send an email or text (can't remember what I was told) as well.

We finally reached VOH last Thursday.  CFO is tomorrow.

Hopefully, you can get those clearances, finish up, and move on.

Just to add a tidbit to your post (and in line with the whole K1 process remaining capricious :D ) They never emailed or text either of us.  The visa went to READY on the CEAC site, then it was something like 4 days later that 2GO picked it up from the embassy and it then became trackable on the site.  As a side note, 2GO called my F and wanted her to go to a neighboring town to pick it up so they didn't have to deliver it  smh    We replied 'NOPE, deliver it to where you are supposed to'

Well, there's different reasons why you might want to get a SSN and this is mi list:

1- So I can have my own bank account

2- So I can get a Utah Identification Card (also for the driving license)

3- It's also better to have it to be added at the leasing contract

Also some States require the SSN to get the marriage license, though not my case.

I'm not changing my name when getting married, so no reason to wait and save a visit for me, and the sooner I can keep moving with my adaptation process the better. Also I remember reading threads on people having some trouble trying to get the SSN after the wedding... something about being in limbo because the K1 was no longer valid but they didn't have a green card or EAD to prove status yet. I'm sure not everyone applying for the first time at that stage encountered the same problems, but just something else to consider.

I won't swear to it, but I think you need an SSN to be added to Employer insurance.  At least that is what I believe.  So I don't want to wait to get her SSN.  Just in case.

I'm also curious about that ( just saw it was answered already)...but why the birth certificate is needed for that ;-)??

I'd read SS wants to see two different documents as proof of identity and AGE. My primary proof of identity was, of course, my passport with the visa, but I used my birth certificate as proof of age and because I thought they would be happier with the original plus sworn translation than having handed my Spanish ID or Spanish driving license (that would be completely alien for them). I also brought my international driving license as a back up.

I should have been more clear.  I think she got a text from 2Go and not the Embassy.  It will bug me now, so I'm going to have to ask her.

We went from Ready-AP-Issued-AP-Issued over a two-and-a-half week period due to our issues, so it was a welcome to see the tracking start on 2Go.

Finally done.

So quick update 😊 I have my medical at Knightsbridge tomorrow and am beyond nervous due to the things mentioned before but I’m hoping everything will be fine. Will

update tomorrow evening.

So had my medical today and they didn't approve my doctors letter,so I have to go back to my GP to get them to write another letter... which as mentioned last tweet me was a lengthy process in it self. I'm really upset and tired of the process right now and really not happy with having to address a really insignificant appointment that I had with my GP over 4 years ago... but just need to keep try  to stay positive that this horrible process is over soon.. I have my interview next week and I just hope I'm able to get everything ready and sent through in time.
