Hello VJ family. I was wondering, are there any petitioners on here live in California close to LA and soon to be spouse coming to California as well? I'm asking on behalf of myself and my future Husband because, this process is not easy, and it would be great to find some friends we can hang out with together that really know what we had to go through. Most family and friends don't understand, in a relationship like this and it seems taboo to them, So it would really be refreshing to have friends on the same page that we know wont pass judgement, or ask us a million questions every time they see us. and more importantly, question our Love and think we have a hidden motive about our relationship......

Ps. Just a heads up for those of you that are in the June and May Forum, I will be posting this message there as well.

...Are September filers able to get in on this too?

I live in Orange County, and work in LA most days of the week. Sometimes, I get lucky though and get to work out of the office that's just a few blocks from my home. Haha

Thanks. April 10 for NOA1. They have 60 days to start adjudication after receiving RFE response. If you don’t hear anything by 16 December then file an inquiry as they will be outside normal processing timeframe.

I would definitely call and if you don't hear any useful information call the office of your local congressman. I called and it was quite simple, within 15 minutes I had given them my case information and they said they would inquire about it then get back with me via email.

Well got her from the airport today. POE in Detroit is evidently really easy now. She didn't go through any secondary checks and was out in around 30 minutes. There were no flight ahead of her but she was a on a full 747-400 from South Korea so it did take a little bit. They just opened her packet right there at the booth, checked it and removed the form they needed and sent her on her way. Happy to have her back, glad I brought her car instead of my little BRZ, her bags were not small or light.

Well no luck on the driver's license renewal yesterday. For a K1 visa you have to be married first in Ohio, so she will have to retake her written and driving exams. We were hoping it would just be a written exam retake. If the visa stuff hadn't taken so long she would have been fine to renew. Unfortunately 9 months meant her license expired 3 months after she left and since we only have 6 months to get it renewed without a retest we just ran out.

We also learned that a 5 hour day on the go after just arriving may be too much so taking it easier today. Just a trip to the courthouse and framer then back home for us today. Enough work just getting her bags unpacked and stuff hung up in the closet as is.

So...

I've just been 25 minutes on the phone talking with the Social Security office to try and find out what on earth has happened to my SSN, that I applied for almost 6 WEEKS(!!) ago.
They come and tell me they mailed my card on November 13th (yep, that's because I called that day after 3 weeks of nothing) and it should have arrived by now (duh! Why do you think I'm callling?).
Then they proceed to ask me if I ever have had problems with my mail being delivery at our address. Well, you know what? This is my first time getting mail here, but no, no issues as far as I know (how could I know anyway?). We never have had a problem with that, and we even have USPS Informed Delivery, that has a way to show us mail for former tenants here, even if then it doesn't show up in the mailbox itself... so that would be like a cosmic coincidence, don't you think?

So the final conclusion is they have agreed to send me the card again, and it should be here in 10-14 days: great, more waiting, with me being unable to open a bank account or have a leasing contract and just have a normal functional life... As if a wedding (I didn't wan)t in 15 days wasn't enough, plus apartment hunting and getting everything ready for AOS (yep, I should start working on that soon...).

Come to this point, I don't even know who's to blame here. I can't say I have much faith in the US Postal Service, which happens to be quite overpriced when you have to send things abroad, compared to the very affordable Spanish postal service.
I don't know what to think about the SS either... Which by the way, offers you the option to talk with a Spanish operator, so I picked that option and ended up having quite a ridiculous conversation where the SS officer would talk in English and then a gentleman would be translating everything she was saying to me and vice versa... what ended being a completely waste of time, because I could perfectly understand everything she was saying to me. I just thought why not to take advantage of a service they offer, specially when I tend to be insecure about my own English.

All in all, I guess you'll have to forgive me for my rant, but I'm not a very happy camper today, and I'm really sorry, guys, but I still have to find anything on which this great country excels compared to Europe... apart from roads, of course, but I don't even drive, and I'm sure getting a driver license here (if I was interested in doing so) would be another living hell.

Sorry.

Estibaliz, hi, dear ! Do not worry, all will be great ! you just feel some complicate at the beginning here...after while you will feel much more confident, after 1 year you will be great, after 5 years you will get absolute assimilate...bureacracy everywhere the same...I cannot wait to see your wedding !) enjoy the life !

Hi, @Tatiana&D.S.! Thank you for the kind words. I know it's just been a strike of bad luck, but still frustrating :P And yep, you can't escape bureaucracy, but still this is the worst I've encountered in my life so far. There are even laws in Spain that avoid something like this happening, as they are obligated to send notifications via certified mail that requires a signature. Oh well...

I just noticed your wedding date is December 22 now (a week after mine ;)), so I hope you'll share your pictures too.

Big hug!

Hi,

We were in a similar situation when our case was at the NVC for approximately 4 weeks.  I finally called and asked for a supervisor. I mentioned to the supervisor that my K1 case has been there for almost a month now and I'm curious to know if my case has been misplaced because I see other cases going thru within two or three days.  The supervisor placed me on hold and returned to the phone to inform me that my case looks fine and has completed the necessary re-checks that were done to ensure all is good with my case.  The next day when I check CEAC status, my case was in transit.  So you can try calling and listening to the first person quote the things they normally say and then request a supervisor. It's worth a try. Good luck on your journey!
