Hi Marchies!! Maybe you guys can help me out here since I'm assuming many of you have already filed for AOS. I'm super confused on how we handle the medical exam part. It mentions still needing to have a Civil Surgeon fill out the form? And what about vaccination proof? My fiance had his medical in New Delhi and was required to get vaccinations, but they never provided him with any specific form showing the vaccinations. How did you guys handle this part of the AOS?

If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination transcription is required to be completed by seeing a Civil Surgeon to have certain portions of the I-693 completed and have the Civil Surgeon certify the form (sealing the original in an envelope and giving you a copy).

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man.... Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

You don't need the form to be filled out again if your visa medical was within a year, I believe, from the AOS filing date. So he shouldn't need to see the doctor again, if he did it for his fiancé visa interview already. I don't know how India does this, but the embassy in my home country sent me a sealed envelope with my medical and other documents after my interview, which I had to hand to the customs at the airport when I entered the US. And I believe they sent those docs straight to USCIS on my behalf.

The vaccination form was also supposed to be filled at the fiance visa medical, so unless he's missing anything, he shouldn't have to do it again?

I hope all of your luck turns around soon too! 🍀 stay positive and hopeful for a speedy timeline!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)

Wow, you went high speed!

Good luck for the future!

Pittsburgh seems to be a speedy field office. Second one I read having everything fixed so fast! :)

Driver's License

Did anyone have any issues with their driver's license? Was at the DPS just now to register for the application of a driver's license since I got a car recently. The driver's license from my country is only valid up till 90 days after entry.

Anyway, the staff pointed out that my I-94 is only valid till 04/22, which is next month. I told her that my I-148 & I-765 are pending still. She said something like I would have to come back and renew it again once immigration update my status. I didn't have a chance to ask more as I was ushered to the next station.

The question here is will my license be valid up till 04/22? There is nothing else to do whilst waiting for the reply from USCIS right?

This is where the US is fun. Every state is different when it comes to driver's license rules. I know all the rules for Utah, but I'm afraid it wouldn't help you much.

For example, someone with a foreign license and has a SS# would be eligible for a full Class D License. Someone who can't provide proof of legal status or a SS# would be allowed to apply for a Driving Privilege Card which allows driving, but does not count as a form of legal photo identification for any other purpose.

I can only speak for VA.
I, being a military spouse can drive with my German license, because they have an agreement.

I wanted to go get me a DL anyways, but got rejected, because my I-94 only had 23 days left, they needed 30.

So, that matches with what I heard from people from other states.

The DMV needs something with an expiration date. So they would give a DL out, only valid as long as the I-94. Pointless, because likely the EAD won't be there to be a legit basis to renew the DL.

Resume: You will have to wait and go back with your EAD/AP card.

Yeah I have no idea what Tx is like in regards to the license. Here in Colorado I probably had the best luck out of most of the states. All I had to do was show my NOA1 for AOS and I got a full temp license that is good for 3 years. Once I get my GC I just have to take it in and update the card to a regular license and it will be good for the regular 5 years and not say temporary on it. :)

In CA they gave me a paper temp one that's valid for 3 months. They told me I'll receive a card one in the mail in 3-6 months (which I'm not sure what the expiration on that one would be) once it's "cleared by legal" (something they told me over the phone).

I had an issue with the DMV at first too, as I guess they've never dealt with anyone whose green card was pending. I showed them my AOS NOA1 too, and finally after I've asked them to find someone who knows the process in the office, they went ahead and processed my request.

I think at this point the best bet is to wait until you get your EAD, they seem to do better when you have documents that have an expiration date on them (unlike NOA1s).

Yes I got a drivers license in Illinois. It expired feb 17 when my i94 expired. I can not renew it until I get my ead card at the least because nothing else shows a date stating you are legal in usa. Some people get lucky with their office but I can't drive and my ead is pending 99 days and counting..     good luck to you !

Thanks! the embassy did give him the sealed envelope that he handed over to customs when he entered the US. I'm just trying to figure out if he then has to send the I-693 form in at all. The medical exam made him get vaccinations, but he's not sure what all they made him get. I suppose we can try to contact the medical center he went to and see if they can confirm.

It looks like now there's a backlog on EADs ... :( Us March whiners just can't speed through any of this lol

Yeah... nothing happening.
I see it on VJ estimate. Not that it would be reliable anyways, but it moved from the first 2 weeks of march to end of April/first week may.
