Hi guys!

Quick question to those who already changed their last name on social security card after getting married - how it works? Do they do it at once or it’s the same procedure as with getting a new one - reapplying and waiting for a week to arrive? What’s with the one I’ve already have in hands? Will they take it away?

We’ve just got our marriage certificates and what to update my last name.

You fill out the form again that you filled out the first time with your new name and your old name and have your marriage certificate least I believe that is how it works. LOL I plan on going in next week to change mine.

Received an e-mail from the IV section of the US embassy in Kyiv giving this former couple another 60 days from today to follow through with the petition though the NOA2 expired in November. I responded with a formal request to abandon the petition. I guess that finally puts me officially out of the race. I was curious to see what would happen to just let the petition go without any action. Now we know! :D

Hey Marchers!!! Happy New Year to you all! Hope everyone is enjoying their new lives with their loved ones. I've been popping in every now and then and it seems like everyone is moving right along.

Just to catch everyone up, my wife and I tied the knot on Nov 18th of last year and had an amazing time on our Disneymoon in Florida a couple weeks after. Other than that we've been pretty much enjoying our time building a new life together as well. I've gotten my SS number about a month ago, done health insurance and joint bank accounts.

Finally got around to taking the knowledge exam for the KY drivers license yesterday. Passed it pretty easily but wasn't nervous about it until I heard the lady that went in before had already failed it once, and then when she was done, she failed it AGAIN on her second try! Anyway, ill be taking the driving part probably this coming Friday. Cool thing about it is they said it won't expire with my I94 since we got married, so ill get a 4 year one instead.

Still working on putting my AOS package together. having some trouble I think with the I-131 AP form. It looks like its supposed to have a barcode at the bottom but the first 2 pages has the barcode greyed out after I type on them. Is anyone having or had that problem? Or is that just how its supposed to work?

I had the same problem with the 131. I had to delete it and download the form again  (the first one was corrupted in some way)

Didn't have any problems second time around.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that and see what happens.

I applied Dec 3rd then I got a  notification from USPS last dec 11th that they’re gonna put the card on the mailbox :D but unfortunately I didn’t get it coz my name wasn’t in the mailbox. Hehe we had to go back to the office for another copy. Then, finally I got it after a week again :))

Got my hard copies of the NOA1 for AOS and EAD today in the mail. Actual Notice date is January 1st which I like cause its the exact beginning of the year. :D

Congrats! We got three e-notifications Thursday night, so that means sometime next week we should have the hardcopy. We've been waiting on that because health insurance gave us a deadline to provide documentation for legal presence (we're hoping the visa+marriage license+NOA1 will do that, but who knows.)

I'm resting a lot easier knowing everything is done and in the system. Now it's just waiting for things to show up or RFEs. The IRS emailed the access code a week after I sent the 864 form, but I grabbed by transcriptions anyway in case that RFE shows.

Wow they gave you a deadline. :o All my husband had to do was take the marriage license and my ssn to his work for his health insurance. His all is through his work and Soon as they had it I was on his plan starting December 1st.

Sure hope that works for you. Let us know how it goes. Now that I have the AOS NOA1 I can go get my Colorado License as I need it to show that I do intend to be a Colorado resident. So after my interview for the volunteer job on Tuesday morning I will head to the DMV woohoo and if I get out in record time I will head to the SSA to change my name. LOL Oh and getting the NOA1s in the mail addressed to me in my married name was awesome. Felt so good.

Legally in the United States you have to sign up for the insurance within 30 days of getting married is what I have been reading and been told.

My husband did the same (brought in the marriage certificate and he brought in my ssn)    but it was within 30 days of marriage.

Yeah it was within 30 days for us too when my husband took it in.

This is what we did, but then about 3 weeks later we got a letter from Social Security denying the name change because my fiance's I-94 was about to expire. We are just going to wait for EAD at this point.

Ah well then I do not think I will head to SSA this week because my 1-94 expires January 25th. I will just wait for EAD as well. lol I also can't get my drivers license as planned on Tuesday now because I forgot they told me I needed my husband's passport for proof of his us citizenship oh but wait his birth certificate should work. His passport is in the safety deposit box and I have no access to it and he works all week. So I may have to wait a while to get that but I will see if a copy of his birth certificate will work. I can only try right. Why not waste more time at the DMV. HA

So then my husband says WAIT I have a passport card would that work. I said hell I will take it and your birth certificate. They have to think that is proof enough that you are a us citizen. lol
