I feel ya....it's quiet  (not as quiet as the February filers).

R arrived on the 15th of November. We added him to my bank account the next day and filed for the SSN. He enrolled in English classes and attends 3 days a week. He and my father have really hit it off....my dad loves him. After thanksgiving, my father took R to an aquarium in Missouri (it's kinda surprise that my very southern father is being super accepting of my north African fiancé....it's all a bit crazy) and they do not speak the same language...

Aww that is sooo lovely Janet. :) I am so glad he and your father hit it off. Sounds like me and my husbands Mum. She and I talk once a week on the phone. :) Course we both have a love for Top Chef which started again last Thursday so her calls will be every Friday to ask about our week and talk about who we like and dislike on Top Chef. lol I look forward to each and every call.

My niece has been missing me. She FB messages me every morning before school. I told her if she still thought I was a cool Auntie maybe she could come visit for a week next summer vacation. She was like really do you think Mum would let me go. I said I think she might. I had already asked my sister of course. So we will see if that pans out. She will be 12 and a half years old by then. Adults might not be cool anymore.

Hi guys! Happy first day of Hanukkah to those who celebrate!

So, I've got my SSN card last Friday - took exactly 1 week after applying.

It says that the card is valid only with DHS authorization. :)

Question - when I'll need to change the last name (after marriage) will the SS number remains the same? They only change last name and reissue new card with updated last name, correct?

Also another good news is the our marriage day is scheduled for December 22nd, 1 pm.

Can't believe in it! So soon already!

Hope everyone is doing fine! Holidays are coming and I wish everyone's the most desirable dreams to come true in the coming year!

We all need more positive emotions after all what we've been through in this process. ;)

Very sad day for me and my fiance. So this was given to him at ghana embassy after his interview.

Questions:

1. Does ur fiance mother knows about the relationship?

2. What are her sisters and brothers names?

3.Where and what does do for a living?

4. When was the last time he was him.

The officer left, came back and give him the white form and return some of the documents. He got my fiance telephone number and took his figueer prints.

OMG...I am so so so sorry. Did he say if the officer gave him an idea of what went wrong? Were there any obvious red flags that you think could've given them reason to doubt anything? Ugh!!! Such heartbreaking news.

And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

Yep, that's correct, the number stays with the person for life regardless of name changes.

Quick update -- we got married yesterday in a tiny church in a tiny town that we visited often while dating.

We spent most of the weekend working on AOS paperwork as well as researching rules around her driver's license (as far as we can tell, in our state at least, she'll go from resident to non-resident between the visa expiry and EAD, even though she'll have legal status with the I-485 filing. Fortunately she has her Canadian license so there's no way she's actually driving without a license.)

Just waiting for the certified copies of the marriage license to show to send off the AOS application. This week the final DL should show in the mail and we'll see what the bank thinks about that, and we should get the title to our new car -- between that and insurance and (hopefully) the bank stuff and the wedding pics, we think we should have enough documentation about the marriage for the I-485.

Great News, congrats!

May you live happily ever after! ;)

Now, when I have a SSN we are planning to go to bank and find out what to do with driving license.

AOS paperwork is what scares me most   hope we'll manage to do everything correctly.

Reading the (few) updates in this thread got me thinking about how you can never possibly predict the future. I was one of the first to get my NOA2 approvals, yet here I am one of the last to finish the K1 process. Just goes to show that no matter what, things can always change and there is no point in stressing ourselves out over things we can't control!!

As for me and the future hubby, we have 3 1/2 weeks until his medical results (sputum testing) will be in and then his interview is currently scheduled for the 19th of January. They threw another wrench in our plan by changing the K1 process in India so now all applicants have to interview at Mumbai instead of Delhi or Mumbai. We're waiting to hear back on if they can grant him an exception to complete the process in Delhi (where he lives) instead of having to hassle with the additional travel/cost of going to Mumbai. But an exception is very unlikely considering how difficult they love to make this process for people. <_<

The waiting is so hard, but honestly I think was for the best that things got delayed. I was stressed out of my mind trying to plan and pay for a wedding in January. So now we will elope in the mountains instead and then plan a big reception for later in the year. It has also given him more time to spend with his brother and parents. We're just trying to make the best of a difficult situation... so far, so good. :)

From what I understand is they had an engagement party beforehand with a pastor who blessed it. So I am willing to bed that they are considered too married for a K-1 fiance visa.

It is funny how life works good or bad. Ugh I really hope they let him complete it in Delhi. *crosses fingers* Sounds like us in Canada it used to be Vancouver and Montreal and then they moved it all to Montreal. Eloping is just so much more realistic I think with all our time constraints. We can always save up for a party later on which is what me and my husband plan on doing next fall. Having a reception at our favourite restaurant and inviting all our family and friends. :) Honestly having a court wedding with just my husband and I(no witnesses needed in Colorado) was the best for us plus it cost us 40 bucks. LOL I think with rings, dress and court wedding we spent 330 bucks. LOL We are cheapskates. :P

Oh darn I should go out again today and pick up copies of our marriage certificate as well as pick up the present I picked out for my husband. We set a limit of only 20 bucks each this year because of the fact our real present is paying for my AOS. lol My husband is not so patiently waiting for his bonus from work. He is getting so antsy. I keep telling him we have time. I said besides I still have to go get passport pictures done for the AOS process. Least its easier to get the right size here. HAHA I think I just have that to get and the marriage certificate copy left. Other than that we have everything ready to go.

I think we are going to try and get my EAD expedited. His doctor thinks that might help my husband be less stressed. He has diabetes and as part of that IBS which unfortunately rears the minute he is stressed and this whole process is stressing plus he needs to have eye surgery and will be off for a bit and that worries him. If I was working I know that would lessen his worry. So hopefully we have grounds to expedite it. All we can do is try and all they can do is say yes or no. :)

AOS, EAD, AP, driver's license if applicable, and getting her on health insurance if applicable were all on my to-do list.

After that name changes (our state won't change until AOS is approved, or so we were told.)

Once all the forms are filed, though, we're looking forward to just living a boring life together. :)
