@Kateryna_I Woohoo what a wonderful POE pic. :D So very happy for you. :)

Well I took out the cornish game hens for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. I am making them along with carrots, parsnips and potatoes. For dessert I am making a low sugar apple crisp. Our first Thanksgiving together. :) I do not plan in partaking in Black Friday cause that is just crazy. :P Chris works that day but probably will be quiet at work for him. He also is working Saturday to make up time for when he was sick. I told him I bet if he asked to work Saturday they would jump at the chance cause everyone usually wants Thanksgiving weekend off.

Thank you so much, Becca!

You are a chef! Perfect menu for an evening feast.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

For me it was another big day - meeting with a family and everything went great!

That is so strange, we have no I-94 at all (other than going online for it.) We got it online and it even has a warning to anyone reading it that it's valid.

I thought those were the only 2 documents required but the sticklers will also ask for a birth certificate bring it just incase (SOME ASK SOME DONT) I've been twice now since my i94 number wasn't in the system yet. 1st time without a bc and 2nd time they grilled me for one. Super annoying. And they wouldn't even tell me if my i94 number was in their system yet without my bc. So id recommend bringing it incase you get one of the strict employees. Im hoping my # will be ready monday..i know they say 10 days min but who knows ...

We're likely going in tomorrow (POE was exactly two weeks ago today) and will bring it, but as far as I know it's not even a valid legal document in the US.

We went to open a bank account without a SSN (which allegedly can be done) and the bank basically refused to do it once they knew she would be getting a SSN in the near future. So pretty much everything we need to do now hinges on getting that number -- driver's license, bank account, and health insurance.

I opened a bank account and we put my name on my fiance's account when I came to visit last June. No SSN needed. The guy said just bring it in when you do have one. He took my Manitoba drivers license as ID. As for the drivers in colorado I can't get one until we have show of the AOS being started so I might just wait until I get my EAD. I don't go anywhere muchly anyway as my fiance has the vehicle. I take the bus if I need to.

Yesterday I broke down and cried in my fiance's arms for a couple hours. I really miss my family much more than I thought I would. I have been super close to them since I lived with my Mum for the past 2.5 years. Before that it never bothered me. I lived 10 hours away for 15 years before that and saw them once a year sometimes. I also am getting bored. I knew it would happen since I have worked all my life. I have put in volunteer applications in at a few places so hopefully I hear back. I did call my Mum and talk to her for 2 hours last night. That helped greatly.

Really interesting my fiance and I got a joint account where he banks, cards come in the mail, but we were able to open it without Ssn. However within 30 days I need to get them my Ssn number as he did mention it is required. Probably easier on us since he has an ssn and an account there.

Honestly I think it was the person at my bank avoiding paperwork. We'll be opening a joint account after we're married as well.

Hopefully we don't have the same issues with the license here -- I didn't see anything to the contrary, other than having a valid visa. We can get a DL without a SSN, but we have to produce some crazy paperwork to prove her identity without it, and the SS card by itself bypasses all that even though it's not a photo ID.

Wife-to-be has a little case of the blues and homesickness as well, but I think once we can get her DL and a car some of that will fade when she's not stuck with me 24/7. I wish she could visit home sooner, I think everyone would feel better about it. I'm starting to look at the I-485 forms this week so we can have them ready to go once we're married. I'm not sure what form provides advance parole, since we'll need that -- we're trying to avoid dealing with the lawyer again. I-485 looks easy, though, albeit long.

I've heard from just about everyone that you can open an account without a SSN, and even the bank said so, but they really, really didn't want to do it and said to come back when we had the number. All I can think is that there's more paperwork. However this was for a non-joint account, so that could be a factor as well -- our joint account has to wait until after the wedding.

Yeah I wish I had a car but alas no dice. However once I start working I will be saving some of my money to go towards one because my fiance's van probably won't last too much longer and he definitely needs something because his work is so far away and not on a bus route.

We just got back from a nice walk down in one of the nature parks that is about a mile from our apartment. So so so pretty. :) Worked off the chicken tacos with quinoa and zucchini I made us for lunch. :)

Yeah you file the I-485 with the I-765(Application for Employment authorization) and the I-131(Apply for Travel Document) at the same time that way you do not have to pay extra fees for them just the AOS one. :) Oh and you need the I-864(Affidavit of support)

We get married December 9th and will file our AOS once we get my fiance's christmas bonus. I already have the I-485 filled out minus one spot I am unsure of just need to look up the answers. Gonna fill out the other two today and that way we are ready to go. :)

Isnt advance parole only for emergency situations? From the sounds of the website info there is a chance of not getting back in if you are just going for vacation???

And I know how you feel I sold my condo and lived with my dad for two years before I made my move here. Same deal not super close before but now super close and miss my family a lot. And ya not having a job or your friends around is hard too.

Do you need Ssn number for a marriage license?

Yeah I am likely not applying for it. I can wait for my green card. :)

Some states you do need it. I did not I just had to sign an affidavit and get the clerk to sign it saying I did not have one. I got it the next day in the mail. LOL

No, AP applies for any trip. There's emergency AP as well (we discussed with our lawyer due to concerns about health of family members, apparently "emergency" means the USCIS processes in two weeks.) If I remember correctly, AP will be provided with the provisional green card.

Without AP, you simply can't leave the country (and re-enter) until AOS is completely processed. The Montreal consulate handed wife-to-be an information sheet after the interview, and it says:

Quote

Can I travel outside of the United States? (blah blah) Once you begin the adjustment of status process, after you get married, you may obtain advance permission to return to the United States after a visit abroad. ... If you do not obtain advance parole before you leave the country, you will abandon your adjustment of status application with USCIS and will need an immigrant visa.

How long is the wait until we get the NVC case number (Philippines)?

Depends on when your case got approved. Your timeline is not updated. You can try calling 2 weeks after approval. Sometimes its fast sometimes not. They got our case 12 days later by I didn't get my number til 21 days after.
