It's funny how much easier the marriage license is than everything else!

What documents did you need (other than passport and i-94) for the SSN? We still have a week wait but it's unclear if we need some other form of ID.

Just the passport and a print of the I-94.
I brought a birth certificate just in case.
That's it!

Check your I-94. For a friend it was online after 3 days already!

Nothing. That is all I had was my passport with the i94. I got my SSN in the mail yesterday btw. :D

Hello Marchies :)

So I've survived passed three weeks of preparation and made it to arrive on Friday.

POE itself was not so bad not taking into account the thing that embassy forgot to put into that precious never open envelope affidavit of support and I had to explain how come it happened like this. So they took me off to the separate room which was scary enough and took about an hour to settle things out. It made me feel nervous and worried a bit. Good thing is that I took all docs I prepared for an interview with me and was able to give them affidavit.

Nevertheless this loooong stage is finished, finally and we are together. Both can't believe in it.

Hope everyone is doing great!

Will keep you updated on our next steps.

Welcome to the U.S :D  Funny about the affidavit of support........ PH embassy doesn't even ask for the thing and you are the first person I have heard of that it was needed at POE.     The strangest things keep happening to you LOL  The good news is you made it, and from here - everything is done together.   Best wishes to you both.  Be sure to share some wedding pics :D:D  :D

Yay  you made it. :) I have been here 3 weeks now and loving it. Except DMV. :( Sighs I am not resident enough to get a license yet too resident to keep using my Canadian one. :P The lady assured me that once I had my marriage license and first NOA for AOS that I could get it then because I would prove my residency. *rolls eyes* Whatever. lol If my fiance needs me to drive him to an urgent care center I am just gonna drive him on my Canadian License and not worry. I have never been stopped by cops yet ever in either country. Course now would be the time. haha

However one silver lining is we lined up a judge to marry us. :) We meet the judge December 1st at 8:30am and pay our 200 dollar fee for him. Then December 9th at 1pm we will get married at Garden of the Gods hopefully in the same spot he asked me to marry him. :) There are 7 locations in Garden of the Gods you can get married in for free. They are first come first served and you have to not mind tourists. LOL

Ooh ooh and I went to the Full Figure Resale Shop here to look for some tops because mine are a bit old and I found the perfect dress for my wedding. :D Its purple and matches my engagement ring. I love purple so much. I saw it and it was in my size and I had to try it on. :) 30 dollars later and it was mine!!!

Thank you so much, Becca! :)

So far I'm loving it as well :)

I've also took my Ukrainian DMV and as far we've found out I'm eligible to drive using it during 6 months.

We'll definitely going to reassure this fact but priority is given to SSN and marriage license. :)

Quick question - do I really need to wait 2 weeks after arrival to get I-94?

Heeeeey girl! YOU MADE IT! :)

Welcome to the US! :)

I can relate to what you went through at POE. My pack was complete, but the CO started asking why there is only a photocopy of the petition in and not the original!
I started digging in my folder (had everything on me as well), knowing I won't find anything. At secondary at least it came out the photocopy is normal and the grumpy CO was worrying me for nothing! :D

Anyhow, congratulations again and may your life over here be full of happiness!!! :D

You can check on your I-94 already. For a friend it was in there 3 days after arrival already. Possibly mine as well, but I only looked a week after POE.
So.... once it's current you can start! :)

Thank you so much for welcoming and wishes! :)

Yeah it felt really strange when they've asked about missed affidavit. But I am happy they let me in eventually :)

Sure I'll share wedding pics! :)

Bthw - here is a POE pic. Me - the happiest girl with the flowers.

Also there is my brother (on the left), my best friend who lives in NY (her arrival was an absolute surprise for me) and of course my beloved on the right :)

Another paperwork question for everyone -- are/have any of you changed the name of your passports to your married name, or are you just leaving that alone?

I will change mine but probably not until it expires in Canada which  is not for another 4 years. :) I will just travel and bring a copy of the marriage certificate with me until I do. OMG I can't wait to get married. :D Counting the days to that giggles 17ish more days to go.

I'm not in a hurry with that at all.
I will do that via the consulate after the GC is in my hands. As a photo ID a drivers license or state ID or the GC itself are enough.
I don't think the passport will be needed for anything after the first mountain of paperworks is climbed, and if - the marriage cert explains why there's two different names.
For travels it's only important that the tickets are booked on the name in the passport. So there's no hassle of carrying a marriage cert around needed.
