Hi ,

I am a newbie for the October 2016 filers.

Can somebody please add my information :-

Filing date : 1st Oct 2016

Package received by USCIS : 5th of Oct 2016

BIometrics : 9th of December 2016

NOA : 5th of October 2016 (Letter of extension)

Filing office : CSC

Question : For those who have successfully got their I-551 stamp on their foreign passport , do we have to surrender the 2 year conditional Green Card and the I-797 NOA extension letter to USCIS?

I have to travel back to my home country and I am concern that without the physical Green Card, I will not be able to board the flight. The I-551 stamp is not sufficient prove of LPR status for my home country. I have already contacted the airlines.

I am making an infopass appointment in Illinois, Chicago office.

Thank you very much

The Malaysian immigration does not care about your American LPR status. When you're entering Malaysia, you will enter with your Malaysian passport as a Malaysian citizen and that is more than sufficient. The GC, extension letter and/or I-551 stamp are only important to the CBP at US POE when you are attempting to re-enter the US upon your overseas travels.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong!! :bonk:

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

HI KULtoATL,

Thank you for your prompt response.

My apologies - I was not clear in my post - I am making reference to the point when I board my flight in Malaysia returning to the US. At the point of entry (Malaysian authorities) , the ticketing agent will check your LPR status to determine your boarding eligibility. Thus my concern of not having the physical green card , if the Infopass appointment requires me to surrender the NOA and the 2 year conditional green card , upon receiving the I-551 stamp

CBP will definitely have no issues with my I-551 stamp, if I do not have my physical green card and/or NOA letter available. I understand if the green card and/or NOA letter is surrendered to the USCIS , there will be a comment on the I-551 stamp that the GR has been returned to USCIS.

Thank you.
