I said that Puerto Ricans are American citizens as are Texans, Floridians, or anyone who is born on US soil. Technically, I didn't say so. The Constitution says so.

Actually it was the Jones-Shafroth Act that granted them citizenship, so theoretically, a new act of congress could take it away.

I do not give a rat's behind how "American" people of PR are. They need help. Period.
It is absolutely ridiculous to discuss "status" while people are dying and it
shows someone's true character to argue the merits of taxes and status ....a human life means nothing evidently.
I for one refuse to be sucked into the pit of "are they American enough" banter.

Theoretically, a meteor may strike Earth tonight, and if it does, anyone born in Puerto Rico will still be an American, just like anyone born in any of the 50 states.

It only matters because we should not be treating P.R.  as foreign or second rate in priority. They are Americans. <Period

I agree with your humanitarian view, I am just concerned about the debate over rebuilding.

I love this whole red herring.  If the federal government under Trump is ignoring American citizens it appears that their leadership sees it differently.

Rossello and other officials praised the federal government for planning its response in detail before the storm hit, a contrast with what Puerto Rico has long seen as the neglect of 3.4 million Americans living in a territory without a vote in Congress or the electoral college.

"This is the first time we get this type of federal coordination," said Resident Commission Jenniffer Gonzalez, Puerto Rico's non-voting representative in Washington.

Did you miss the discussion about "qualified" citizenship?

That discussion was a red herring perpetrated by the fact that the Left Wing media is doing anything they can to turn this into a negative for Trump.  The Governor himself and their D.C. Representative say otherwise.

You only need to go back a few posts to find the quotes that show folks are not settled on providing aide to PR

No one here  has remotely suggested such a thing.

Not true

"

However, the title of the post is saying that Puerto Rican is American. Puerto Rican is actually qualified American. If they want to be fully American including voting and representation in Congress, they also need to pay the full amount of taxes.

The U.S. has a unique relationship with PR - a territory but not a state. Most of my Puerto Rican friends are proud of being American, but also proud of being Puerto Rican. Some wish to be an autonomous country, others to be annexed as a state with all the regular rights. It's too bad that the discussion generally comes up only in tragic and catastrophic stories.:(

You hit the nail on the head. Time for the free ride to be over. I am sorry but if I have to prioritize relief between taxpayers and non taxpayers, guess who winns

That having been said, we are dying from old age waiting for one of the MDL to post actual evidence Trump ignored PR.

More fake news. Its all they got "
