Help was not there fast enough for PR. Criticism increased it only the last couple days.
He did a great  job for FL and TX but sorry, not so for PR.
9 days was too late.
Trump was preoccupied with the NFL.
His nasty tweets against PR show his childish fits once again, who the heck would attack with tweets at a time like this. Vile and inappropriate.

"PR is an island surrounded by water.....big water....ocean water......."
Who talks like that

We know that already, who does he think his audience is with this baby talk. Go golfing and shut up Donnie and embrace your indifference.

The failing administration and it's many fired loosers have the lowest approval in the history of this country.

He doesn’t need to go to PR for help to be sent there, hopefully you know that.  In order to send so many thousands of Marines there within a few days of the storm happening is a massive logistical event.

Now the trouble is getting the stuff from ports to where it is needed.  And since the truckers in PR don’t seem to be willing to move it, there is a bit of a gridlock going on.

As for the bold part, that president isn’t in office any longer.

To me, they were in quick succession.  I didn’t say a number of hours.  I was referring to their geographical location on the pages of this thread.

We all make mistakes, it’s no biggie, as long as we learn from them.  I make quite a few myself, even though I try to put out good info.

It wasn’t you that said it, but I am still unsure what was meant by PR citizens being “qualified Americans”?  Never heard of such in regards to PR.

It seems like that San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is attacking the Federal Government for her own political gains.

The mayor of San Juan is hyping up her calls for help because she is upset that one of the distribution centers was not near her. The people that are coordinating these centers needed a place that had better and faster access. That is one thing that people here in the states do not understand. San Juan is huge and traffic is a nightmare there on normal days. It takes my son an hour to drive a 30-min drive to work. So a distribution center near Mayor Cruz would create a bigger problem to get trucks and vehicles in and out of the center to do their deliveries quickly.

C'mon, folks, please.

Distance, logistics, port access, supply distribution, and lack of electrical power amidst tenuous infrastructure are plenty of objective hurdles to focus on.  The waiver of the Jones Act removed what was probably the biggest political impediment on "our" side of things, enabling direct aid from other countries... once the port logjams and trucking issues are resolved.

Let's have compassion toward those poor victims and do anything we can within our personal power to provide support to them.  Who else here has donated funds or supplies, and to which relief agencies?

Let's put our minds to work here:

1.  If you were in charge (as Governor of Puerto Rico, as commander of relief operations, as President, as FEMA head, or you pick it), what would you do to alleviate the above hurdles?

2.  When other Caribbean islands were hurricaned in the past, what procedures worked the best?  Are they transferable to the current situation?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Best post in thread. The people who are impacted are what is most important.

From a friend of mine headed over to PR soon to assist FEMA:

Our military has been there since the beginning. Biggest problems were the airports and ports were not ready for traffic and the infrastructure was a mess, roads etc. FEMA has been there and still assisting and I will be there soon. Drink some Soju for me and eat Yaki Mandu!!

Absolutely.  And for those of you that don't remember, there was the same complaints after hurricane Andrew.  Three days after Andrew the Dade county emergency management coordinator cried and pleaded for help wanting to know where the government assistance was.  I remember this well as I was already living here in south Florida.
